DaVinci Resolve won't open on new laptop

PostThu Jan 20, 2022 12:17 pm

Hi

I received a brand new HP Omen laptop yesterday. I've installed DaVinci Resolve 17.4.3 run on it. But when I double-click on the Resolve icon, it doesn't open and nothing happens.

Specs of my machine:
- Intel I7-11800H
- 32GB RAM DDR4-3200 MHz
- NVidia RTX 3080 (with 16GB RAM)
- Windows 11

I've tried following some YouTube videos to get it work to but still have the same problem. So far I've tried:
- Disabling the Intel GPU in device manager so only the NVidia GPU is active. This enables Resolve to open, but then it crashes shortly after the splash screen.
- Changing the Graphic Specifications to "Power Saving". No effect.
- Uninstalling and reinstalling the previous stable build (17.2). No effect.
- Banging head against nearest wall. No effect.

Every other piece of software I've installed runs fine. It's only DaVinci Resolve.

Can someone please help? Would be much appreciated.

If you are not yet, try using the Studio drivers for the NVidia GPU.

Keep the Intel GPU disabled.

The problem with keeping the Intel GPU disabled is that it changes to screen resoltion to something really low, so I don't really want to do that.

I have the same laptop and the issue still persists after trying to do that.

And you don't have the option to adjust display settings in Windows after disabling Intel? That's odd.

Over my head then.

Well actually, I can adjust the screen resolution after disabling the Intel GPU. But that is not the issue.

The issue (as I mentioned in the original post), is that after disabling the Intel GPU, DaVinci Resolve crashes.

Hi.

I searched and found this thread: 'Can't open DaVinci Resolve on Hp Omen with Windows 10'

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=87937

But he didn't tell us what he did to get it to open?

Can it be a driver problem?

Regards Carsten.

That mean Nvidia gpu is not working like display card, check well setup on bios, there is a very odd thing, and is not resolve related…
