How do I move DaVinci Resolve to new computer?

The computer I've been using for DaVinci Resolve Studio is starting to have problems. So I just purchased a new computer to replace it. I purchased DaVinci Resolve Studio back in May and I contacted Adorama (my vendor) and asked what I should do. They said to contact Blackmagic. However, there doesn't seem to be a customer service/support channel with Blackmagic.

I assume I can download the latest version of DaVinci Resolve Studio and install it on my new computer. However, I can't find the packaging that Adorama shipped to me, so I don't have the license key. When I purchased this, it also came with the speed editor.

I'm pretty sure I registered everything but there's nothing on the Blackmagic website that allows me to get my product info. I do have the order information from Adorama.

Any suggestions?

Sorry for the bad news, but loosing the software key is like loosing cash.

I'm in luck. I searched my dirty, dusty, and very cold attic and found the box that my speed editor came in. Inside the box was my product activation key card.

Now, I'll download the latest version of DaVinci Resolve Studio and use that activation key.

Congrats! Nevertheless, deactivate it on the old one if you can still start it.

Take a picture of that Activation Key and save it in your phone. And write it down and put it in a database (like a Contacts database or one dedicated just for serial numbers.)

The same tips apply to updating and moving. You can copy and move Project Databases, and a lot of that information will survive. But be sure to backup the Project Database "just in case."

I keep a database in a simple .doc format of all my serial numbers etc saved on Google Drive and as a hard copy. Similar for user names and passwords. I also keep some of the actual software files in case I want to do a clean reinstall of Windows etc.

On a similar question if I may: recently I installed Studio 17 on an old laptop as a backup. All went fine until I tried to actually open the app. At that point it would not recognise the GPU - unsurprising really as the GPU is way out of spec. - I'd hoped to just lose the GPU and have CPU only. No way. So I cannot open the app. and therefore cannot deactivate it. Therefore I won't be able to authorise a copy on a new PC.

Is there a method other than going through Blackmagic direct? Thanks.

Unless BMD has changed how it works recently, you can activate on another machine without issues. Older activations will be deactivated automatically.

That used to work well most of the time. Recently there have been a few more reports of problems with that process. We don't know if it's a change of policy or only occasional server hiccups.
So, if you can't get your two activations back, contact BM directly.
