Update 17.4.5 output color space

PostMon Mar 07, 2022 9:04 am

Hello,

One of the updates:
"Ability to set output colorspace in DaVinci YRGB projects."

Can anyone elaborate further on this? Is the purpose of this purely for tagging output files so you can work scene referred and don't have to manually overwrite export settings?

The output colorspace option is enabled for YRGB for tagging purposes.
So you can set your timeline color space as you wish for grading, and the output quite different to define the tag.

The old tag controls work only for render where as now the output colorspace tag is used in live grading for Dolby Vision conversions when generating other deliverables.

Great addition. Is there any chance, that in the future, the color management options could be timeline based instead of only project based and added to the timeline settings dialog like Format, Monitor and Output currently are?

In this multi delivery world it would be very handy to be able to set color spaces per timeline instead of per project. Would make it much easier to mix different deliveries in the same project without having to toggle the project settings back and forth, and forcing tagging in the delivery presets.

Interesting suggestion but delivering for multiple displays isn't as simple as switching a timeline. Your eyes/brain and monitor need to adjust too so it's quite a bigger process in that regard. I see myself easily forgetting what output my timeline is showing and monitoring incorrectly.

I don't do multiple deliveries at the moment but from what I know there's always a master version in either HDR or SDR that gets the full treatment and the "child" versions are just trim passes that happen as a separate process. Could be quite messy to get them intertwined just like mastering audio while mixing at the same time.

Thanks
Could it be rename as "Output ColorSpace TAGs" to differentiate with the RCM "Output ColorSpace" ?

This feature work well with MacOS ColorSync and it's very helpful for Color consistency. :)

Why 1 menu like colorspaces menu and not 2 menus like in Deliver page ➧ Video tab ➧ Advanced Settings ➧ ColorSpace tag & gamma Tag ?
