sound files import at wrong frame rate

PostMon May 23, 2022 4:54 pm

When I try to import a .wav (24 bits / 48000 Khz) in a 25 fps or 50 fps project it keeps showing up with a 30 fps framerate, and I can only import them as so.
How can I change this ? Clip attributes doesn't work, cause audiofiles shouldn't have a framerate to begin with.

Help appreciated.

Hmmm, I found a work around, by creating a project on another computer (mac) importing the WAVs and then exporting a DPA file which I imported in my main computer (windows).
That worked, but it shouldn't be this complicated.

None of my imported WAVs have a frame rate and therefore don't show one in either Metadata or MediaInfo. Do they by any chance come from a device that embeds timecode into the audio?

I agree, wav files shouldn't have framerate metadata, because they already have Hertz and stuff.
But I the Media Page they have a frame rate, even before I add them to the Pool.

The workaround that finally worked was, using another computer, importing the audio files (from a mixpre 6) in a 25 fps project, add them to a timeline, export the timeline.

Import the timeline in the problematic project, relink the audio files and suddenly the files that have 30 fps framerates had duplicates that have duplicates with 25 fps framerates.

It's workable now, but it cost me half a day to figure this out.

Anyway, I hope it will help others that are equally unlucky.

In the 18 beta and using List view, I do see audio files listed with FPS.

But I don't think it means anything. They seem to take on whatever FPS the project is set at.

The same audio file lasts the same amount of time no matter what that FPS reading is, though.

You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Okay, but did you try the *other* workaround? Namely, ignoring the FPS metadata which shows up, and determining whether the files play and sync up as expected?

Here's guessing you went to a lot of trouble for nothing.
