Behind the scenes in archiving and restoring

PostMon Jun 27, 2022 5:54 am

Hi. I'm having issues restoring an archive and don't see a clear enough explanation in the DR17 manual.

Is it right that DR does not compress anything, but simply locates the project, cache and media files in one portable folder.

When you restore a project archive, does anything change in those files or is it DR simply opening them at the new location (and maybe creating new cache files)?

Yes, the latter. If you want more compression, use Media Management instead.
What's your current codec?

Thanks for helping. The source is all Apple Prores 422 HQfrom recorders.

Render cache says DNxHR HQX. That seems to be the default. There are no Prores options, I guess because I'm on Win 10.

Acon now says this is a Davinci problem...

Thanks for sending over the settings. However, as I mentioned above, I'm afraid that this must be an error in DaVinci Resolve since the original source files were corrupted. Please contact Black Magic's support and report the issue. Thanks!

Best,
Stian

ProRes can't be generated by DR on Windows, but in my experience it works flawlessly under it.
DNxHR at similar data rates is just as good, but why convert?

Finally, what's Acon working with?

Sorry for the late reply. Just finished a long shoot, so the backlog must be cleared :)

Sorry about the confusion. I posted my reply regarding Acon (a VST audio addon) to the wrong thread.
