Keyframes don't stay on timeline

PostSun Jun 26, 2022 8:21 pm

I can't get the keyframes to stay on the timeline. I insert a keyframe with the diamond on a video. Move a few frames forward, make my video changes and click the diamond to preserve the change. Move forward again, make a new change and click the diamond. By now, the previous diamonds have disappeared. what the heck am I doing wrong??

You need to press the diamond icon only for the first keyframe. Any changes you made afterwards it creates keyframes automatically at the playhead position. If you press the diamond icon again after adjusting a parameter, you just removing the auto created keyframe.

ok thanks... I think I understand that now.

But.....now here is my problem. I have created a mask to project on my garage door. I want the video to just play on the door through the mask. When I create a keyframe to keep a portion of the video in the center of the mask, the entire mask moves rather then the video INSIDE the mask. I need the mask to stay stationary and the video to move inside the mask. Any idea? Is this even possible?

Yes the Edit tab.

You will see here the Merry Christmas wording was keyframed to move to the middle of the mask but instead the entire video moved to the left in the shape of the mask.

You have the video in Track1 selected, it has the red outline around it in your Timeline, you then moved it to the left with the Transform PositionX changed to -331. That is why the video moved to the left. Is the Merry Christmas part of the video or did you add it in Fusion?

Merry Christmas is part of the video. I was trying to center it inside the mask.

How are you accomplishing the masking? Have you done anything in either the Fusion or Color page or just Edit? If you make your video a Compound clip, you can keep it centered but reposition the video inside it.

the mask is added in fusion to mediain1. I just tried with a compounded video and no luck. Any chance I could send you the video, mask & map of the garage and you could try it?

Here is what I have done so far, is the top png on the Edit page supposed to be there or is it just for reference? What is the final result supposed to be?

That top png is a map of the garage doors. The two arched portions are stretched white fabric that will cover each garage door since they are brown and won't show well. My intent is to split up the video and show various portions on 1) the single door 2) the double door and 3) the entire garage front. I will be trying to have one singer on one door and the other on the other door - sort of singing to each other. Then the portions that have the background people will show on the entire garage front. Does that make sense to you? Help you understand the goal? So that top png will not be part of the show but is serving as 'target' to get the parts separated out.

Are you talking about actually projecting this onto your garage doors or overlaying this onto a video of your garage doors?

If you are, I think it will be very difficult to achieve with this video. It looks like Ed and Elton are rarely both singing on screen at any given time and there is also alot of movement between them and the background people and the set. There are a few parts that might work. You would probably have to have at least 3 tracks, one each for the left double door, the right door, then when you want to go full door. Then you would probably have to make a Compound clip of the whole thing and add the masking in Fusion.

This will be an actual projection onto the doors & the fabric covering them. It will become part of a bigger scene in the yard that consists of pixel style lights and props coordinated to the song being sung and projected onto the garage doors. There are large 3D props with lights in the yard consisting of Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, a singing Christmas tree, several large (4' or so) hanging bulbs each with faces also singing the song in the video.

This will be just one song and I plan on having 10 different songs. The entire show will run roughly 30-45 minutes and the music will be broadcast with an FM transmitter so cars on the street will simply tune their radio to the proper channel and watch the show.

Thank you kindly for your help. This projection mapping is totally new to me as well as DaVinci. It is obviously very robust software and the learning curve is a bit steep for this old timer. Speaking of which, it is time to call it a night. I will pick it up again tomorrow. BTW as you have been working on it, so have I here on my end. I am starting to get the hang of Fusion but there is still a LOT to figure out. Thanks again!!

Here is a link to one of the songs from last seasons show. It is the one we are working on now for adding projection on to the garage doors. The doors are off the screen to the right along with another one of those singing bulbs you see in the video.

I have been making some progress on the key framing today as well as the masks. The masks seem to be even more confusing for me now than the key framing. I'll keep at it though and eventually the "bell will ring"!

I'm sure I'll be in touch with more questions as I proceed if you don't mind.

Thanks,

Don
