Smart Bins: Proxy status?

PostTue Mar 09, 2021 3:57 am

So Resolve now uses database-wide Optimized Media, and has removed the ability to see a clip's optimized status, which is fine by me - removing Optimized Media entirely from Resolve and moving to proxies is the way forward. Next up, Blackmagic, please rename Timeline Proxy to Adaptive or Dynamic Playback Resolution, thanks.

I digress. It seems like I can't create a Smart Bin to filter out clips based on whether they have a proxy or not.

What gives?

Sounds like a couple of Feature Request ideas in there. ;)

Best practice is to search first, to see if someone already asked. If not, post one idea per thread with a very brief description of the idea in the thread's title.

It's not a feature request. It seems like an oversight, considering you could create a Smart Bin for Optimized Media before. I asked in case someone had some insight about perhaps Blackmagic introducing a new way of doing this for proxy media, considering that itself is a brand new feature.

Well, do you have any?

I don't know of any way to do it. That's why I was thinking Feature Request.

Agree that this is essential and very surprised its not currently capable even in Resolve 18 beta. ☹️

+1 ... Smart Bin search criteria for Media Pool Properties & Metadata - Clip Details is riddled with missing items and inconsistent naming... and don't even get me started on the lack of alphabetical sorting of these lists.

Missing from the Media Pool Properties list is:
Audio Codec
Camera #
Clip Color
Date Added
Field Dominance
Offline Reference
Proxy
Proxy Media Path
Synced Audio

Missing from the Metadata - Clip Details list is:
Audio Codec
Audio Sample Rate
Audio Channels
Field Dominance
EDL Clip Name

Naming inconsistencies include:
File Path <> Clip Directory
Audio Ch <> Audio Channels
Duration <> Duration TC
End <> End TC
FPS <> Frame Rate <> Video Frame Rate
H-FLIP <> H-Flip
Online Status <> Status
Roll/Card <> Roll Card #
Sample Rate <> Audio Sample Rate
Start <> Start TC
Start KeyKode <> KeyKode
Type <> Clip Type
V-FLIP <> V-Flip
Timeline <> Timeline Status
Audio Offset <> Offset Source

And whilst we're at it, why are some Clip Attributes also missing from these views/functions?
Image Orientation
Alpha Mode
Super Scale

+1 / came here to see if its possible too. What I wanted to do is to have a smart bin that shows me all used clips and their proxy data so I can check at one glance if I am using clips that don't have a proxy.

Bizarrely the DVR17 Editors Guide, on page 128 contains the following:

TIP You can create a Smart Bin to list all clips that have proxy media attached

which suggests to me that a proxy smart bin is supposed to be possible. It's not in 18.0.2 as far as I can see.

I assume nothing was done about it?

There's an alternative way of doing this. We can see proxy status in the bin's column layout (while on Media Page) - it is called "online status". Not that convenient, sure, but still works.

Hi guy

My solution is to filter on the PROXY PATH ... Si if you choise /volumes/Disk01/DVR PROXY as proxy directory, and the column does not contains "DVR PROXY", so yours proxies are not here or on a bad path ...

Best Regards
