Automate to sequence (like premiere)

PostSat Jun 18, 2022 3:31 am

One feature in Premiere that speeds up my workflow so much is Automate to Sequence. I select bunch of clips, give them in points, and place markers in the timeline where I want my edits to go (usually on the beat), hit automate to sequence, and I got a full sequence edited to the beat/markers.

I miss this feature, how can I do something similar (the fastest possible) in resolve? I can't believe it's all manual placement?

With multiple media selected, right click and create new timeline using clips. This uses the sort order of the selection, as well as in and out points for cuts. This function can be invoked in Media, Cut and Edit pages.

For a different approach, the Cut page has a source tape, where all clips in the bin are shown as a coherent source tape (again, in the media pool sort/listing order). With a speed editor or editing keyboard, you can then scrub, place in and out points on the go and insert precise cuts. If setting media In-Out is the time consuming apart of your operation, this helps.

Lastly, if the source timecodes are set correctly, Insert using timecode does the same task without needing timeline markers.

Hi. Are you familiar with automate to sequence feature in premiere? All I have to do is, place markers where I want the cuts to go in the timeline (on the beats), select my in points, then click automate to sequence. Now I have a full edited timeline to the beat (markers). I can't find a similar way in resolve. After selecting the in points, I have to drag each clip individually to the timeline where the beat is.

Is there a way I can edit multiple clips to multiple markers in resolve?

Thanks

If you desperately need that, why not use Premiere and send the XML to Resolve?
You can rent it for a single month.

If you know how to use DeepL for translation, drop me a PM and I'll send you my article on Pro <-> DR.

And / or if you're really invested in this function then you could look at creating a Script / Workflow Extension to achieve it.

I have premier. I use both. But this is one of the few features I miss. XML workflow is a nightmare especially if I use time remapping.

For projects where I edit to the beat, that feature saves me days of work.

Never used it. How does it help move timelines?

You’ve misunderstood me. My article is about round-tripping between the two NLEs, but it’s in German.
