How to melt/hide hot pixel

PostWed Jul 06, 2022 5:50 pm

Hi!

My camera makes hot pixels when the camera is heated too much. The recorded material then will have one white, steady pixel.

Is there a way using a window or similar in color page to melt that pixel with pixels next to it?

Let's say I would select 3x3 or 5x5 pixel area with window, leaving that one hot pixel in the middle. And a tool like inpaint/content-aware would melt that pixel to the selected surrounded pixels.

You could try the Dead Pixel Fixer, Patch Replacer, or the Paint node in Fusion in clone mode.

I usually jump into Fusion tab and paint it using paint node. There is the frame replace effect too that you can select a portion of the shot and set to use previous, next or blend both.

Thanks! I'd like to avoid Fusion for as long as simply possible. That page makes everything slow and laggy. If there is a fix for this in edit or color page, that would be awesome! I'll try those Dead Pixel Fixer and Patch Replacer.

Dead pixel should work.
You can also play with power window and node scaling in the color page. (a bit like a clone tool)

oldschool fix: copy video to above track, move 1 pixel to any direction and crop out everything except the pixel you need to cover.
