Full Screen Goes To The Wrong Screen

PostSun Aug 07, 2022 11:50 pm

Hello, I was hoping to find a solution on a full screen bug I came across. I just upgraded to Davinci Resolve 18.0.1, and the full screen is going to the wrong monitor. I feel like my workspace might be unorthodox, idk I haven't seen other people's workspace, but I have Dual Screen + Full Screen Timeline turned on. This is my workspace: https://imgur.com/OBQuPDS

Previously on Davinci Resolve 17, I was able to full screen the video display, and it would show up on my main monitor (horizontal). However, this behavior changed in 18, and the full screen shows up on my second monitor (vertical). It looks like this: https://imgur.com/1mlvtqQ

I want the full screen to go to my main screen, the way it did in version 17. Would anyone know how to do this? Thanks

Try swapping the monitors around by changing the Primary display in the Workspace drop down menu.

Hey Charles, thanks for suggesting a solution. Unfortunately, I tried swapping the primary display and it still full screens to my second monitor. I also tried Reset UI and changing main monitor on Windows, but those didn't help either. I have no idea what's causing this issue. Thanks for trying to help :)

It's possible that Resolve does not like the vertical orientation of the monitor.
For reference my monitors are set up with the Windows primary monitor on the right (the BenQ), and Resolve's primary monitor (the Eizo) on the left.

If any inexperienced users are viewing this and wondering why the clips in the Media Pool are dark and the one in the Timeline viewer is not, they were shot in Canon C-log, and the Timeline viewer is showing the graded clip.

Hi Charles. Why not use the input transform so the clips look right in the media pool as well?

Sorry, Sean, but what means "Full Screen" while you are obviously talking about dual-screen-issues? You didn't explain the impact of «Workspace->Full Screen Window» onto your problem. The second screenshot provided even looks less like a dual-screen-issue, rather like a «Workspace->Video Clean Feed» question.

I don't like answers like that, but did you radically remove you GFX-drivers including all settings and reinstalled it clean from scratch? Might fix at least some of those ridiculous Window-10-is-for-Microsoft-Surface-only-idocracy-issues. Also, your setting might allow to reorder the plugs of your display-GFX-connections. I'm used to quite a lot of multi-monitor-issues with Windows 10, but at least DaVinci behaves quite well: »Workspace->Full Screen Window» impacts the very display the DaVinci-Window was on when the command was applied, not influenced by the question which dispay was elected 'primary' (traditionally declaring that display being the 'Full Screen Device', nowadays declaring where to relocate the Task Bar).

Bjorn, to avoid confusion, I based my answers on the original post which states that Full Screen Timeline is turned on.
There is of course the Full Screen Window selection in the Workspace menu as well.

Hey Björn, sorry to get back late even though you're trying to help. My messages keep needing approval. But what I mean by "full screen" is when press ctrl+f, you can make the video feed go full screen to see it better. The problem is that pressing ctrl+f used make that video feed go full screen on my main monitor (on the right) on version 17, but it goes to the left vertical second monitor (on the left, second picture) on version 18. But I want it to behave the same way as it did in version 17, full screen to the main monitor.

As for GFX drivers, I use DDU before installing, so I can have a clean install with no issues.

Hi Charles, sorry for the late reply even though you're trying to help. Your second picture is almost exactly how I have the workspace set up, except I have the full screen timelines on the right monitor instead of the left. My question is: if you press ctrl+f, does the video feed on you're right monitor full screen on the right monitor or does it full screen on the monitor with the timelines?

Sorry if I'm being confusing. Here's another picture in hopes of what I would like being more clear:

For the Edit page, in Full Screen Timeline mode the Ctrl+F full screen picture goes over the Preview/Media Pool display. In the normal Timeline view it goes over the Timeline display. One of those Resolve quirks I'm afraid. The Fairlight page behaves the same as Full Screen Timeline mode.

Video Clean Feed will go to your second monitor and not the selected Primary one.
The item in the Workspace drop down menu named Full Screen Window merely makes the Resolve UI occupy the whole screen by hiding the top task bar. I have my Windows task bar at the bottom of the screen set to Auto hide.

In my setup I have my Eizo grading monitor on the left and my ordinary BenQ monitor on the right. The BenQ is set as the primary Windows screen with the Eizo set as Resolves primary screen. When I color grade I use Video Clean Feed. I then change the Resolve primary display to the BenQ so I can have the full screen picture on the calibrated Eizo.

Darn, so it looks like there isn't really a way for for the video clean feed to go onto the primary monitor. Oh well. Thanks so much for taking the time reply, Charles! :D
I'll deal with it and hope they change it back to the way it was on 17.

It wasn't any different in version 17, or versions before. I've been using Resolve since version 14.
If we are talking about actual Video Clean Feed and not full screen with Ctrl+F, that picture I posted is of version 17.
