Just received the Speed Editor with Dongle Resolve-Help

PostFri Aug 12, 2022 11:34 pm

Trying to use the new Speed Editor but it doesn't show in Resolve. I already have a license card version of Resolve 17.4.2 on my Mac. Plugged in the Speed Editor vie USB. Started Resolve but no Speed Editor in Preferences/Control Panels. Can I only use it with the Dongle in? I'm using a paid studio version now. Haven't even tried it with dongle in. Is that how it will work? Seems odd if so. Are licenses (serial numbers/dongle) attached to each Speed editor?

No, it should work with either license. Try another cable.
If that doesn’t work, you may have a bad unit.

Run the panels utility, via usb cable, and update the firmware.

If the internal battery in the Speed Editor is flat you may need to let it charge a bit when it's plugged into the usb port.
Panel setup is here.

Finally!
Wanna hear what my issue was? Of course you do. Everyone wants to hear about people dumber than them.
The USB C cable that came with it wasn't plugged in all the way on BOTH end. On first attempt, I put them in, heard a click and didn't give it a second thought. 2 hrs later I wined to you folks about it not working. Turns out I had to put about ten pounds of pressure to get the cables all the way in the editor & iMac. So much pressure I was getting worried. Well, got the BIG click and now all's well. Took like ten hours to charge from 0% to 100% but now all is happy happy joy joy.
Thanks

But I'd suggest getting a better cable or you may ruin your connectors over time.

So yea, I tossed the cable that came with it. The force needed to seat it was just way too much. Found a spare so all's well. Plus the Speed Editor last a really long time before needing to be charged which is pretty rare so, props to BMD for that.
