DaVinci Resolve not showing up after installation on a Mac

PostTue Aug 16, 2022 10:44 pm

Hi everyone,

I downloaded the free version of Davinci Resolve 18 on my MacBook Pro and I am unable to located it anywhere. The supporting programs (Fairlight Studio Utility, Blackmagic RAW Player, and Blackmagic RAW Speed Test) have downloaded and I can see their icons on the dashboard but not Resolve.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

If you have the supporting apps, then DaVinci Resolve.app should be in the DaVinci Resolve folder in the Applications folder.

Do you have a DaVinci Resolve folder in the Applications Folder?

Thank you for your reply. In the Applications folder DaVinci Resolve comes up as a blue folder with two items in it: DaVinci Control Panels Setup, and Fairlight Studio Utility.

Make sure you go to this area to download Resolve software:

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/suppor ... and-fusion

And then select the Mac OS button in this area:

DaVinci Resolve 18.0.1 Update

You will need to fill out the Your Details area on the left. You don't need to enter anything into the area on the right.

Run the installer that downloads, and see if that works any better.

Alyson, did you ever figure out a solution or workaround to this?

I am having the exact same issue with Resolve 18 and 18.5 (for me, the Studio version on an intel iMac Pro). Everything else seems to be put in place after installation but no Resolve app anywhere to be found. I have tried so many troubleshooting steps and it's driving me nuts!

You're saying that after running the Resolve 18.5 for Mac installer, you don't have a DaVinci Resolve folder in the Mac Applications folder?

Actually the folder is put in place correctly (very much like Alyson's post), but inside it is only the DaVinci Control Panels Setup, the Fairlight Utility, or sometimes both. No Resolve app. Blackmagic Raw Player and Speed test are also installed, and folders are created in Preferences and Application Support.

I've tried with 18.1.4, 18.5b5, and now the stable 18.5 release - all do something similar. I've tried using Safe Mode, installing as admin, uninstalling with the included utility as well as manually deleting those folders.

I had v17 installed properly on this machine until a couple days ago when I decided to update (I also updated to macOS Ventura at the same time).

To report back on this for future reference - it turned out my mac's logic board was just beginning to fail. Almost certainly the cause of these strange installation issues. Time for a new Mac Studio! :D

I'm having a very similar problem. I've tried installing 3x now. First 2 were with the most recent version of Resolve 18.6.4, and then I tried Resolve 18.0 just for test. None of them install. They do not create a Black Magic folder in my app folder. And when I tried to custom install, 'Resolve' has a check in the checkbox, but it's grayed out, as if not available. Any help is greatly appreciated.

When you select Custom Install, seeing DaVinci Resolve grayed out with a check mark is expected. So there's nothing wrong there.

What happens when you start the install? Can you perhaps provide a screen recording of what it's doing?

What macOS version are you using?
