Advanced Panel Issues - Operating on its own

PostThu Aug 18, 2022 10:18 am

Hi there.
I have a problem with the DaVinci Advanced Panel.

For some reason the panel is acting weird in grading sessions. At times there is no response and after a short time, it does operations on its own. For example shifting the offset or lift, gamma, gain. At other times the HSL Curves went nuts, operating hue vs hue and hue vs sat.

It seems that only the middle part of the panel is affected. We had to plug it out and in again but that did not fixed the problem in the long run.
Anyone here knowing this issue and could help?

It may be of interest that the panel is connected via a ethernet port, since the machine is not placed in the grading environment. The cable is about 80 meters long.

We are currently working on 17.4.3 on a maxed out Mac Pro with IOS 10.15.7.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Manuel

The Advanced panels are USB connected. So how are you connecting it via Ethernet?

Do you mean you are using a USB to Ethernet extender? If so, what brand and model number?

Hi Dwaine,

thanks for your post.
Yeah it is exactly as you mentioned. We are using a Ethernet extender. I have to look up the specific model though.

Coming back to you.

Hi Dwaine,

I've looked up the USB to Ethernet adapter. It's the "Gefen USB 400 FQ R".
Here is a link to the specific model.

We've always recommended these USB Ethernet extenders for the Resolve Advanced panels:

Icron Ranger 2204 or 2304

Other extenders seem to not work as well.

So my advice would be to first off, direct connect the panels to the (or a) computer with a 12' or less USB cable and verify they work properly.

Assuming they work properly directly connected, replace the Geffen with an Icron 2304. Since the Geffen you linked to is Fiber connected, and not Ethernet connected, hopefully you can get a 100 meter CAT 5/6/7 cable between the panels and the Resolve computer to connect the Icrons together with.

Hi Dwaine,

sorry for the late response. We will do just that and test, if the panel is working correctly under the right circumstances.

Thanks for your support.
Best regards,
Manuel
