Zooming In/out within a MultiCam Clip

PostFri Sep 23, 2022 11:16 pm

I have have 3 camera footages A, B and C.

1. I used an adjustment clip to zoom IN 1.5 and position footage A accordingly.
2. Then I create a Multicam clip
3. I do my regular edits on the Multicam clip.
4. However, there's about 10-20% of the footage in A where I would like to Zoom OUT to 1.2 and reframe.
5. Unfortunately, the Multicam clip doesn't allow me to Zoom out.

What is the best way to achieve my editing objectives? #4 above.

Note: If I don't have the adjustment clip in the original footage, it means I would need the adjustment clip in 80-90% of of the Multicam clip for every cut of footage A. Isn't that a tedious process?

Open to any suggestions.

Thank you.

You can try this:

1. Select all the clips from camera A and create a compound clip.
2. Drag a transform OpenFX from the effects panel to the compound clip (Do not use the built-in transform because it's not visible from the multicam viewer).
3. Adjust the zoom(1.5) and position of the transform effect.
4. Duplicate the compound clip and place it on the track above
5. Adjust the zoom(1.2) and the position of the duplicated compound

This way you have 1.5 and 1.2 zoom as separate camera angles and you can easily switch between them from the multicam.

Panos, thank you very much ... that works!!

I am unfamiliar, however, about your Step #2. Would you mind elaborating more on that in detail?
I can see the different videos in the multicam viewer, but they show the same angles.

Thanks again!

Go to the effects panel, in the Open FX category you will find an effect named "Transform".
Drag the transform effect to the compound clip, go to the inspector, click the effects tab and adjust the Zoom/Position from there.
