Washed off colors when uploading online

PostTue Sep 27, 2022 6:27 am

Hello!

I have been suffering over a year now from washed off colors when uploading videos to the internet. I'd like to solve this issue for good.

Please find attached some pictures for a review. It has a comparison of Frame io, YouTube and VLC desktop player. I'd like the video to be viewed online like the VLC player. Frame seems to be desaturating the most. Both examples are in Firefox*.

Davinci Resolve settings are as set on to: Davinci YRGB color managed, SDR, SDR Rec. 709. Input Color Space: Fujifilm F-log. Material has been shot with Fujifilm cameras.

Please help me fix this.

*Firefox and Safari does not have difference in saturation. The issue must be in the file or how online servers handle these files.

Have you tried setting "Color Space Tag" and "Gamma Tag" to Rec.709 under "Advanced Settings" on the Deliver page? Windows or Mac?

I think this applies here.

How it looks anywhere besides the calibrated display is simply beyond your control.

I really would give that a try, Konstantin. Made all the difference for us here.

This is a well documented issue with Mac OS

Video shows the best work around I have seen.

to summarise his "ultimate" settings:
use Davinci YRGB
monitor rec 709 2.4 (on calibrated reference monitor)
on output apply a CST going rec709 G2.4 > rec709 G2.2 (do this on timeline mode)
render prores 422(HQ)
Force tags 1-1-1 (colour rec 709, gamma rec 709A)

Not so much an issue with MacOS, but with players and streaming services not respecting the same flags.
The software may be free, but the hardware needed for smooth performance is not.

Resolve Studio 18.1, MacOS 12.6.1
MacBook M1 Pro, 16 GPU cores, 32 GB RAM
