Failed to write to database folder

PostSun Jun 12, 2022 11:42 pm

Hello,

I am having an issue with Da Vinci Resolve. When I start the program, it displays the following warning and quits. I am unable to get to the main screen and access my projects.

Error:

"Warning
Failed to write to database folder
/Volumes/Lacie/projectlibrary. Please make sure you have the correct permissions."

The path it is referring to is the new database I had created on my external drive and it was working fine for days. Suddenly it stopped working after I upgraded my mac to Monterey.

If someone could tell me how to fix this, that would be great. Thank you.

This is a good reason why not to put the project library on an external USB drive.

Try making a new project library (projectlibrary 2) on that same drive and then see if you can access the old or if you need to copy the whole library across (dont move it, copy it)

It is on a external hard drive not USB. anyway, I had to do that because I was trying to see if I can edit it on different computers and carry on from where I left the project. I copied the old library and pasted it and resolve still gives me the same error. It won't go to start screen at all where I can switch to a different database. It just shows that error and quits.

i now dont have any idea whats happening.

Are you saying you cant start resolve at all?

did you, Try making a new project library (projectlibrary 2) on that same drive and then see if you can access the old or if you need to copy the whole library across (dont move it, copy it)

if that doesn't work, make a new library on the system drive.

use export to take a project to another computer

So my initial problem was that when I clicked on resolve, it would try to load, give that error and quit without going to the main screen. With your suggestion, I thought you meant duplicating the project library folder on the drive which I did. No, I have never been able to get into resolve and create a project library through the create databases page at all because resolve doesn't even load to that point for me to be able to go to page. It just quits after a few seconds of clicking ok on that error on startup

I am really lost. I cannot get into Resolve. It just quits upon start after showing the error message. That's what the original problem was. How can I do anything you are suggesting?

I have read the FAQ and here is all the information:

How to reproduce error:
Click on DaVinCi Resolve. It will open and display the error. Once you click ok, the application will exit.

Davinci Resolve Version: 17

About my computer:
MacOS Monterey
Version 12.4
Memory 16GB

Log files and Mac info:
https://drive .google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1PL9HLP1QuHhOBiUhc5QMmhvU6TQAe8xk

There were a lot of log files. I put the most recent one in the folder. Let me know if you want me to put more in there. There were a few different files in the folder after I ran the capture logs.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Ishwinder. I think you do not have write permissions on this external drive for some reason. Can you check that and get back? It seems to be read-only to Resolve. (/Volumes/LaCie/)

Hey Rohit,

I do have write permissions to the external hard drive. I just copied a filed into it to double check. Resolve is not seeing the access for some reason.

I am having the same problem with a database on an external raid drive on Mac OS. How can I transfer projects from an existing database to a new one in Finder? I can't do it in resolve because it won't open the old database giving the error:

Failed to write to project library folder
'/Volumes/RAYD/!Resolve_Projects'. Please make sure you
have correct permissions.

Then crashing. I have normal disk permission and have even changed them to everyone has access to everything but with no avail.

FIXED Re: Failed to write to database folder

PostThu Aug 03, 2023 8:29 pm

Resolve has a "dblist.conf" file that saves all the connections to databases, their usernames, passwords, and which one was the last one open. On macOS, it's stored here: ~/Users/(Your Name)/Library/Containers/com.blackmagic-design.DaVinciResolveAppStore/Data/Library/Preferences/dblist.conf

Open the file in a text editor, and make sure the asterisk is here in the first line, so Resolve opens to the "Local Database" first. Local Database:/Users/(Your Name)/Library/Containers/com.blackmagic-design.DaVinciResolveAppStore/Data/Library/Application Support/Resolve Project Library:*:::DISK
