Proxy Media: can't generate below Quarter

PostSun Dec 27, 2020 8:38 am

When generating from the Media page, I get the following error:
Proxy Media Generation
Proxy media failed to generate for the following files

Only if I have my preferences set to generate media of One Eight or One Sixteenth for original videos of 720 or 1080. Setting proxy size to Quarter solves it.

I had to set it up to "Half" for a 640x360 video, though - I got the same error trying that one at "Quarter".

Resolve doesn't handle clips smaller than 256 pixels in either dimension.

Understood, thanks!

In that case, I'm requesting an easier way to generate proxies. Current workflow:

Set proxy settings for Quarter.
In the media tab, generate proxies for all my 1920 clips
Set proxy settings for Half
In the media tab, generate proxies for my smaller clips

...etc. I wonder if the quality settings could be specified in the menu for "Generate proxy media", similar to the current "Render in place" workflow.

Just wondering why you need proxies for HD media.

Or for that matter, media that's less than 512 lines tall.

I guess in order to make tiny things super-tiny via having very low bitrates?

It's a virtual choir video - 16+ videos on screen gets slow even at just HD.

And it's just easier to create proxies for everything at once, rather than sift through and think about what I *could* get away with.

Good call. Makes sense, though 1/4 rez is 1/16 the data and using a proxy codec would make it pretty tiny I'd think. (I'm on a Mac and thinking of ProRes Proxy, not sure of the options on a PC or Linux.) And it might save your eyes from extreme pixellation if you decide to full-screen solo someone that's at 1/16 rez.

I use 17.1.2. and made Quarter Proxys for transfering a Project to my DAW PC, where I want to finalize the sounds of the 52 tracks. But there are no waveforms and no sound at all. Only the Tracks where no Proxys made have audio.

I get the same error message while trying to generate h.264 HD (1920*1080) proxies at original resolution. DNxHR HQ works fine and isn't having any playback errors so I will use this. I think it is a bug. I know h.264 isn't the best option, but it is an option, so it is strange it doesn't work.

Ever since I've updated to 18.0.4 I can't generate proxy media. I don't know if it's a bug or it's my problem.
I tried changing the settings to different qualities. From original to 1/8 of size(and the rest). And I tried changing to other formats besides H.264. But it still says Proxy media failed for the following files.

Any solution?

Can you share one of the problem files for us to test?

Hey I'm trying to add a file to this but everytime I get an error. So I'll add a wetransfer link.
However I don't think that my files are the problem, because I had no problem before and even if I try with other files like my drone vids for instace, I still have the same problem.

I changed back to 18.0.3 and it works again so it must be a problem with the new version.

I had no problem creating and using a proxy with the test file in Studio 18.0.4 on Windows 10.

Maybe the specific proxy settings matter. What are yours, so we can duplicate?

No problem here either, making a proxy in 960 by 540 as H.264.
