Where is the download for Apple Silicon

PostMon Oct 03, 2022 5:04 am

Sorry for the bother. I use Windows PC and this is my first MacBook Pro M2 experience. I tried installing Resolve 18.0.4 for Mac that it want to install Rosetta. I don't think that is what I want if I want to use Resolve on the Apple Silicon Architecture. I cannot find the Resolve 18.0.4 for Mac Silicon. I just want to try out Resolve lite for now. Can someone help me with the link to it? Thanks.

The standard Mac download is compatible for all Macs.

I read other post that apparently the Mac version still requires Rosetta even on the Apple Silicon. I installed it to try out on the M2. Will there ever be a version when the entire app including plug-ins will be full native (w/o Rosetta)?

IIRC Resolve has some 3rd party components that aren't made for Silicon, so it won't be fully supported until those are.

I wonder what drawbacks are there with features using them and if it matters at all. I hope it has no discernible impacts, which I will be okay with that till then.

It works perfectly fine here. Just make sure that DR itself is not set to open with Rosetta.

Hi Uli, for a PC user trying out Mac, how do you do this?

It’s normally set correctly after installation. I just wanted to mention it.
You see it when holding CMD +I when the program is selected.

It is very unlikely you have Use Rosetta on but to check do the following.

Navigate to your Applications - DaVinci Resolve folder and select (single click) the DaVinci Resolve app (DaVinci Resolve.app). Depending on your Finder prefs settings you may or may not see the .app filename extension. You can turn this on or off in the Finder Prefs - Advanced Panel (Finder menu -Preferences).

Then hit File- Get Info (or Command - I) and you will see a File Info dialog box. At the very top of the General List (if not open hit the little triangle to reveal the list), it should say Kind: Universal. The Universal designation means it will run natively on any Mac. Further down the dialog box there is an option to Open using Rosetta which should not be ticked unless you really want to try it.

This has all been a good discussion but it never answered the OP's question. Rosetta was installed as part of installing Resolve - if not Resolve itself, what part of the package requires Rosetta? FWIW, the described process of using <Get Info> on the DR executable does not work that way on my MacBook Pro (2018) running Monterey (12.6). There is no mention of Rosetta in the info that is returned from that query.

Your MacBook Pro is an Intel Mac so it is not relevant at all. Ignore and move on.

Thank you for your courteous insight. But now I am on an M4 Airbook and Rosetta information does show up in the <Get Info>. When I examine Resolve it has a check-box option to use Rosetta that is not checked. When I do Get Info on OBS (native Apple version, ARM64) there is no mention of Rosetta.

Does this mean that Resolve runs with Rosetta if the box is checked? If not the Resolve binary itself, what other parts of the package use Rosetta?

Thank you.

Here we are a year later, and the latest Resolve is still demanding that we install Rosetta.

Ridiculous.

Thanks for the response. The Sonoma update bricked my Mac, and Apple had to wipe it. I'm at the tail end of reinstalling everything, and so far I was able to avoid Rosetta. Of all the things I use regularly, only Resolve requires it at this point.

I sympathize with the codec issue, however.

18.6.2 works very well with Monterey. Just saying.

After the bricking is a bit late, and I don't base my entire system configuration around Resolve.
