Subclips like in Avid

PostTue Oct 04, 2022 7:28 am

Hello,

for a long time now I try to find out how to create solide Subclips.

I record sound with the BMP6K - 2 wireless micros. Channel 1 Voice 1 Channel 2 Voice 2

When I go to Davinci I just have one audiotrack. So I have to go to the timeline, seperate the two Channels and then also add the other micro wav I recorded with the zoom.

So - now I have a clip in the timeline with 3 audiotracks. When I link them it's fine for the timeline, but how can I make one Clip from this - so that I have this new Clip with the three audiotracks in a bin?

Thank you very much for your help!

The only thing I can think of would be Compound Clips.

It's not exactly like a subclip, as subclips in Avid behave like a source clip.
Though I don't know of any software that does it like Avid.

With a compound clip you would have all your tracks together, though I think they would show up as one audio track in the timeline again.

You can merge an additional audio track in the Media Page (Chapter 21 in the manual) then, in Clip Attributes, you can patch the Linked and Embedded Channels as needed.

In the media page mark in and out and then right click, on the preview monitor, just above the controls on the playline, select create subclip. I use it all the time. It works in the edit page as well.

so, now I tried a view things.
Subclips I can't create in the edit page, only in the media page, but there it doesn't work with more audiotracks. Or I didn't figure out how.

Ok - but the simple tipp to add one more audio track and seperate the audio tracks before putting them into the timeline is great. Thank you!
Now I also found out, that I can link one audio track in the media page with the good old Synch per In Point method. So - around corners I think I might have now everything I wanted a subclip to do.

For me it would be great if there also would be a "autosynch per In-Point" possibility.

thank you everybody!
best regards
