GoPro 10

PostSun Sep 25, 2022 6:46 am

When I try to attempt to import my GoPro footage it imports the audio but not the video. Shows the message that can't find the source. Even when I import directly from the SD card I get the same problem. I wonder if this is because I shot in 5.3K and the free software only handles up to 4K. The same footage imports correctly into Pinnacle Studio without any problems.

Any ideas

Works fine here, but I'm working with the Studio version. Have you tried setting the timeline resolution to 4k first? Maybe this helps.

Media resolution isn't limited in the free version, only the timeline/render resolution.

It might be a memory issue but we don't know what hardware you're using or the resolution of your timeline.

If you're on Windows and shooting HEVC/H.265 on the GoPro, try installing the HEVC Video Extensions from the Windows Store.

To Double check. You don't have a GoPro 11? They record in 10 bit. The behaivor you are seeing is expected for 10 bit mpeg4 footage in Resolve Free on Windows.

Resolve Free on windows does not support 10bit mpeg4

You can doublecheck with media info;
https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download

Work around for 10 bit is any of the following;

Buy $300 studio key

Use a Mac.

Transcode to dnxhr hqx with Shutter Encoder (free)

The problem with the video related to Win 11 not supporting HEVC. Now I have installed it I can see the video and hear the audio, but on the time line the audio shows as a solid blue line. There is not a separate audio track showing the wave form.

You might need the HEVC codec, not sure.

I can read these HEVC 10 bits with Resolve free.

I can now see and hear the go pro footage but on the time line there is no separate audio track just a solid blue bar under the video on the same track. I have attached a screen shot showing this.

You're in the Cut page, Evan. An oddball pet project of BMD's CEO.

Move over to the Edit page to work properly. ;)

In the edit page I can see both the video and audio waveform on the same track. There is no separate audio track on the timeline. In Fairlight it shows both L and R tracks as solid green bars. It does not show audio waveforms.

This is how a clip appears in the Cut page. The embedded audio in the video clip is not shown as a separate track. Only an added audio clip such as music will do so.

On the Edit page try these Timeline View settings. If the audio track is very narrow only a green bar will show unless you increase the track height.

Stereo tracks will normally display with only a single waveform, but you can display both channels by right clicking on the audio track and selecting Display Individual Audio Channels.

This is what you would see in the Edit page with a narrow audio track and one with Display Individual Audio Channels selected.

Track height will also affect how the waveforms are displayed in the Fairlight page.

Thank you for all the trouble you have taken to assist me. However, although your advice helps I am still left with problems with the audio (out of sink). The same GoPro footage causing me grief in DaVinci Resolve works perfectly in both Pinnacle Studio and Power Director, so I have decided to set aside my efforts to use DaVinci Resolve. I may try again in the future but for now I will use the video editing software that works for me.Thank you once again for your time taken to assist me.
