Davinchi Resolve crashing and not opening on Mac - Help!

Davinchi 'quit unexpectedly' when attempting to open, or would state 'can't be opened'.

I have only been using the program for 2 months, it's been working fine and I've been working on 4 projects. I recently attempted to copy my projects onto my external hard drive (for back up), and for some reason Davinchi didn't like this and was asking me to export the project when trying to close. Ever since this happened, I haven't been able to open up the software. For reference, I originally used 18 and have now uninstalled and reinstalled 18.1 (thinking this would solve the issue, unfortunately not). I've been researching what to do, tried deleting the whole cache folder and didn't work.

Can anyone help? Really gutted this has happened as just moved over from final cut pro and was looking forward to a smooth process (after hearing all great feedback).

will, when you open resolve, can you get to the page where a project need to be opened?
if so, can you create a second database and see if you can open to program (and the project is corrupted) ot the program doesn't start at all?

I'd suggest an older version of DR. That laptop is really a bit weak for current ones.

The program does not start at all, it simply gives me the 'can't be opened' after 5 seconds and then 'quits unexpectedly' after another 5-10 seconds. For the second option it gives me the chance to share a report with Apple, would this benefit anyone when diagnosing the issue?

I understand I could be using an older version, but 18 was working fine before I decided to copy and paste a project into my hard drive. Which version would you recommend running with my current set up?

If it has been working before you have created havoc with your database. How did you copy those projects? Did you use .drp files exported before or did you try to replace files in the database? If the latter: bad idea!
If you want to go back, I’d use the newest version of 15, it was very stable for whole classrooms in our university with iMacs not much stronger than your laptop.

Yes I did actually do the latter unfortunately. I copy and pasted the project into the external hard drive folder, I spoke to an engineer and he said that was a terrible idea...

Anyway, I've tried doing a clean reinstall and downloading 17 (didn't work, even though it says it's compatible with Catalina), however 15.3 did work! Which is a big relief... Although hope I'm not missing out on too much with such an older version. Looks like I'm going to have to update my set up to get 18.1...
