How to get back natural color of this over graded clip?

PostFri Dec 02, 2022 3:25 am

Dear all,
My client has over graded orange and teal clips that has to be graded back to original color or at least natural color. This orange and teal is really strong.
Is it possible to graded it to more natural color?
I have tried but no success for now.
Thanks.
This is over graded orange and teal clip

do you have the individual clips or just the conform?
do you have access to any of the original media or an offline reference video perhaps?

And which format is the codec in the available footage?

On a more general note: what's gone is gone. Imagine footage shot under a sodium street lamp. Someone with a blue jeans will always wear a black (or grey) one, whatever you try. The information is simply missing.

Thanks mattezz and uli. There is nothing except a youtube video above. Unfortunately that video is really over orange and teal graded so look really ugly in my eyes.
The one thing that i can do is download that youtube video and re-grade to natural/green color. Not over orange and teal.

that look like either some amateur colorist doing his T&O or some VERY bad LUT form internet (M31 anyone?).

what's missing is not there anymore, you have to recover some early image.

if this was a paid job, don't pay them.....

I agree with you Walter. Yeah, this is really bad color. Video that taken from 2 years ago.

hmm in this case its tricky and no one size fits all correction will really work.
Hues are really compressed here (as you said towards orange and blue) so stretching them back out towards where they would more naturally would be (ie green foliage away from blue) without affecting things that are supposed to be blue could be relatively tricky - you want to expand that vectorscope hue spread and get the sats back in order.

There might be some AI tools in the future that could work magic on this though. See what resolves autocolor does - who knows?

or just go black and white

I’d play with hue vs sat curves to take down the oversaturated hues and pull up whatever is left for the rest. Good luck!
