3D Keyer vs ChomaKey vs Delta keyer

I was using the 3D keyer in the edit page and not really satisfied with the results. I then tried the Chroma Key and the Delta keyer in fusion. As a point of reference, I am pretty much an "okay" beginner. The results that I achieve were much better with the Delta keyer and least best with 3D keyer.

I have two questions: 1) is this to be expected? and 2) does the Delta keyer require more processing power. I am using a brand new macbook pro with an m1 chip and this was the first time I experienced any lag in the video. I kind of had to wait for things to cashe.

Also, kind of a side note, in the Chroma Key I could not get my mouse to work on the color picker. I had to use the touch pad. Is this normal?

I'm no key expert, but for me the 3D keyer on the Color Page and then using the '+' and '-' droppers and the many sliders gets the better/faster results.

Keying is highly dependent on the quality of lighting and shooting. With less than perfect sources keys can behave quite differently.

That said, there are also the Ultra and the Primatte keyer in Fusion. Even if the latter is not the full version, it's worth a try.

It's not like there is one "best" keyer, but i'm often kind of amazed how close a single 3d keyer comes to more complex setups in fusion.

I always wondered why resolve doesnt have an Ultimatte 12 style keyer. That keyer for live performance (you could use prerecorded) is incredible.

I keep hoping that all the different layers in the Ultimatte 12 can be brought in as layers in the edit page. That way you can link the original camera footage in post and have greater control over color correction.

However to answer the OP, as was stated earlier in this thread, it really does depend on your original source footage as to where the greatest success is regarding the three options.

I've been trying to advance my keying skills in Fusion but every time I try to use the delta keyer I just don't seem to get results as good as the 3D keyer. What are the differences between the two and why do they behave so differently?
