18.02 - Slow in loading Projects

PostThu Sep 08, 2022 7:26 pm

With the release of 18.02 I was hoping to have this fixed. Nope.
Project database ported from 17 when I installed 18.01.
Process ...
* Start up DaVinci (now 18.02) and everything loads pretty quickly until it gets to the "Loading projects" step.
* == LONG == wait.
* Once the projects page come up, I select a project to open (18 minute video) and click to open it.
* Small info box opens ... loading ... not bad time.
* Then the main windows opens ... totally blank.
* Wait a full minute or more (not exaggerating) ... eventually the main window get populated and I can begin editing.
It would be great to get this fixed.

1) disable the timelines you dont need
2) archive the database -> vacuum the database (optimize database)

try again....

New projects started in v18 are much faster that updated from v17. That won’t change.
V18 created projects are saved in a much more efficient manner, thus allowing cloud project libraries.

If one has an old project what can one do to turn it into a new project? Is creating a new project, selecting all, then doing a copy paste sufficient? Is this covered in the manual somewhere?

I could not find how to "Optimize" my project database.
Can you point me to how to do this?
-------------
I did create a new V18 project database for all future projects. This allowed DaVinci to load quickly (there's no projects in it yet). We shall see as I add new projects.
I would have thought that the projects added to the translated database would have been native v18 projects and would load quickly into the main window.

I have the same issue. Worth noting that in my case, it intermittently loads a project quickly. I see the progress bar pop right up and the project loads in seconds. Other times, nothing happens until about 3.5 minutes later, and the edit page just appears.

I also recently upgraded from the free version to Studio. I was hoping this might be fixed in the process, but unfortunately, the same exact behavior as with the free version.

Incidentally, I would have upgraded no matter what. Well worth it.

It's true 18.1 upgrading project libraries made loading projects painfully slow - I can share how i "solved" the problem for me
I created a new library and start all my new projects in her and Davinci is loading fast again when I need some project from the past I suffer waiting opening the old lib but export the say project and import it in new lib
My 50 cents

I thought it worth an update. I have been using 18.1.1 for over a week now, and loading is quick. I only now saw the suggestion about switching libraries. In my case, I am just using the imported library, and all seems fine.

That's what helped me too. I regularly make a .drp export of my projects anyway. I created a new database (aka library) in 18 and imported my projects.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Had a similar problem with poor performance in a 17 to 18 upgrade. A workaround that worked for me was to make a new timeline, and copy the entirety of the old timeline to it and save it. Once the new timeline was tested, deleted the old timeline, and things worked fine after that.
