why is iphone 13 pro max diff from sony zve10

PostSat Jan 28, 2023 3:04 am

I love editing my Sony zve10 its great. As soon as i put my iPhone file in it slows way down. the film is shot in hd not 4k and the frames are doubled. So i record the iPhone in 30 frames and still it says 60. I have 64 gigs of ddr5 6000 ram with a Ryzen 9 7950x processor and a 3090ti so i don't think its my pc. I hate doing anything with a iPhone in general drives me nuts. I just wanna buy a another Sony camera.

any idea why?
thanks

no idea about iphone, but with my pixel6 i use cinema4k app and chose what frame rate, iso, etc., i want since the phone will only record in 30 / 60fps variable (i want 25 / 50 fixed), and lacks any 'serious' control over how it records.

meanwhile, bung your iphone footage through shutter encoder / handbrake to something more resolve useful...

AFAIK an iPhone isn't capable of shooting fixed framerates. It's always variable. Perhaps with certain camera apps you can actually lock it and store true 30fps.

Not even FiLMiC Pro can do that. And I doubt that other smartphones are better in that respect.
Whenever I encountered sync problems and/or intermittent media offline from a smartphone, it was VFR, independent of brand.

hi uli, hope all's good with you.

the cinema 4k app on my pixel with give me fixed 25 or 50 fps. makes working with it a breeze.

should add, at CBR.

Hello,
I use my iPhone (SE last gen) as fourth camera with Filmic Pro (UHD 25) and I have no problems to edit it.
I use timecode to sync it (TC from Zoom F8, sent with Rode GO and input in iPhone with Rode AI)
Some interviews are 120 min long and I have no problem to sync it in DVR and make multicam (other are Pan GH3, Pan GH4, BMPC4K)

I don't do anything fancy to the settings of my iPhone 14 pro and it syncs with my FX6 and 9 without missing a beat. I have Filmic Pro but it makes no difference whether I use that or set my phone to 25fps which you can do - it's one of the standard settings. The longest takes with the phone are about 10 minutes. Never tried it with earlier iPhones so I don't know whether Apple did something different with the 14.

Edit: I took a screenshot from my phone but can't see how to post it here. The options are, in order on the screen:720HD at 30fps, 1080 HD at 25 fps (PAL), 1080 at 30fps, 1080 at 60fps, 4k at 24 fps, 4k at 25fps (PAL), 4k at 30fps, 4k at 60fps (High efficiency). The "PAL" was added by Apple.
