Still Images in Power Windows?

PostThu Feb 02, 2023 9:44 pm

Hi everyone,

I was asking myself whether it would be possible to place an image into a Power Window in DR18.
Searched the Internet, but didn't find anything. So I assume there could be a another or better way to place an image into a mask, so that it fits exactly into it.

Any advises from some experienced users?
Would appreciate any hint. Thanks.

You would place the Power Window on the image. (Or video clip.)

That said, can you clarify the end goal here?

Yea, goal is to replace a picture that was shot hanging on the wall or monitor with another pic.

OK.

You could just add the new image to V2 above the clip, then adjust Zoom and Position accordingly.

Yes, I know. But if the perspective of that target frame is in a another shape than square or rectangle...

I would probably go to Fusion, then. Mask out the area you want to replace, then add the new image as the Background in a Merge node.

There are Pitch and Yaw controls in the Inspector Transforms that will allow you to manipulate the perspective appearance of your replacement picture.

You can, but it's a long explanation. You need to go over the basic textbooks on Resolve Color and Resolve Editing, which you can find here:

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/produc ... e/training

One way to do what you want would be to place the new image on Video Track 2 (above your original shot on Track 1), then either crop the new image into the shot, or composite it in with the compositing tools available. You could also use Power Windows with Alpha Outputs to facilitate this (and soften the edge). And you could also do it in Fusion, which would require a longer explanation.

This kind of compositing is best done in the Fusion page as it has all the tools and control of perspective you need to get a quality result.
