Is there any 'limiter' for color saturation?

PostTue Feb 07, 2023 11:14 am

Dear all.
Sometimes, my client request a pop color. Yes, a video with more saturation color. Bringing up saturation in Primaries wheel sometimes will make some color over saturated and another color under saturated. Like audio, there must be a 'limiter' of saturation.
But i don't know how to do it.
Anybody here has tried it?
Thanks.

You might try the 'color boost' slider instead of saturation slider. It works similar to vibrance slider in LR. raises saturation of medium saturated items and little impact on stuff with very high or very low sat.

You could also use the sat vs sat curve and make the same effect manually. Even pull down stuff that is already to saturated while not touching stuff that is middle.

Use either sat vs sat curve or the saturation mapping inside the CST OFX to compres down high saturated colors. Try out wich one gives you the best results.

There is no "limiter" on saturating a color, hover, there is the fact that if you over do it you reach the actual boundaries of the color space and there is nothing more.

Red for example can only go to 100% at a very specific luminance, and if you want a "darker red" or a "lighter red" you will have to give up some perceived saturation
