Changing Clip Duration

PostFri Mar 12, 2021 8:13 pm

I have been using Davinci 17 Pro and have been trying to change the "clip duration" for multiple clips. This seems to be a bug. I have tried: linking and unlinking the clips; working with/without the trim tool; using the selected clips and just the trim tool. All that seems to happen is that the 1st of the selected clips is extended and everything else stays the same. Any help would be appreciated!

Yeah, this changed in 17.

I don't know if it's a bug or on purpose, but you'll have to do them one at a time for now.

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Thanks Jim! Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update. I use a lot of pictures in my videos and trying to match the links to the video duration becomes extremely time taxing if I have to insert or delete any photos after the initial insert. I have been using Camtasia for most of these types of projects because it is so much faster.

Hi,

I just wanted to bring up that topic again.
Did anyone find a solution from changing the duration of multiple clips at once?

I can SHORTEN the duration of 50 clips at once, but I cannot increase the duration.
It only works for the first clip.

Bye

Hi,

I just found the solution myself.
I tried it in the "EDIT" Page. And there I can only shorten multiple clips.

BUT

in the "CUT" Page - you can do both!! "Change duration" works as expected for multiple clips!!

I still think this is a bug, it should also work in the EDIT page, but this is a nice workaround.

You can change the duration of multiple clips at once from the Edit Page, check out this thread.

If you want clips to ripple both directions on the timeline when changing multiple clip durations in one action, you need to be in Trim mode first.

That doesn't ripple in both direction, just the end of the clip

You are correct. You need to select the edge of the clip, incoming or outgoing and trim separately. The edge selection is achieved using a keyboard shortcut, so is relatively easy to do without having to reselect the clips.
