4K timeline zooms in on 1080p Export

PostFri Feb 24, 2023 9:44 am

Hello, I would appreciate any help with the following export issue. I have 4K proxies (3840x2160) 25FPS that I have been editing in a Timeline that I adjusted to match the footage (3840x2160) 25FPS. However, when I do a vimeo 1080p export, the footage zooms in about 200%. In order for it not to crop, I need to manually adjust the resolution to 3840x2160 in the Deliver page. Attached are my input and output scaling settings. Even when I change the Output Scaling to UltraHD, the same zoom issue happens.

Am I overlooking something, or need to adjust something somewhere else? I would prefer not to create a new 1080p timeline and resize all my individual clips to be able to export smaller aspect ratios.

If I understood correctly what you want to do, just set output scaling to "Match timeline" and you should be fine? The "Input scaling" tells Resolve to "fit" the footage into any timeline resolution that you have and then render will automagically scale from whatever your timeline is. Now with output, you're forcing the resolution you have set. With these project settings, your timeline settings should be just "Use project settings".

Btw 1, you can at any time change the resolution of the timeline your working with, Resolve will think a while and then you can continue working. A FullHD timeline is a little easier on your computer so might be a good idea if you render to FullHD in any case.

Btw 2, personally I think bicubic is a nicer scaling algo, "Sharper" a bit overdoes it in my view.

Hello thanks for your response! When I click on Match Timeline settings in Output Scaling, the export still zooms in 200%.

I suppose my question would be, I have a 4k timeline with 4k footage, but when I try to export to 1920x1080 it always zooms in 200%. Could you please help?

The previous answer is how to solve this.

Did you also set Mismatched Resolution to Scale entire image to fit?

(Check your specific Timeline Settings, not just the Project Settings.)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Both of you are absolutely right, I didn't change the Timeline Settings and now is resolved. Thank you!
