The key of the music is a whole step down

PostSat Mar 25, 2023 9:15 pm

Version 18.1.4 build 9

After importing my videos the key of the music has changed from D major to C major and therefore also has some kind of sound disturbance. I don't need to insert them into a timeline to hear it. I can hear it from the preview window as well. Is this a bug or have I unconsciously made a change somewhere in the preferences that will be applied on import? I haven't had this issue before. It applies as said to both videos of which I was going to make a multicam clip. When played back in any other application they don't sound like this.

Just discovered that it also applies to the separate audio file recorded with Digital Performer.

Maybe a sample rate issue, although I'd expect about a semitone sharp if you had a 44.1K file in a 48K timeline.

Luckily it didn't change to C minor :-)

Did you touch the Pitch function somewhere?

Does the timeline have the same fps as the source?
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

This could be the .1% difference between 24.00 and 23.976, or (if it's a large step down), from 25fps to 23.976 (4.1%).

Thanks for all suggestions!

It's working as expected today however. I must have been something temporary.

Yesterday I noticed a click in the speakers when starting DaVinci Resolve. That usually happens when changing the sample rate in the audio hardware, which I haven't done. I've been using a headset earlier when making a screenshot movie with ANY MP4 Screen Recorder and then editing it in DVR. Maybe there were some leftovers from that session?

The trick might have been to just restart DVR which I didn't come to think of yesterday.

Yes Mike, your right! I just checked while starting up DVR. The sample rate changes to 48K in the hardware app. Playing it back like that doesn't affect the pitch. But if I then open Digital Performer it changes back to 44.1K. Playing back the audio now in DVR results in a whole tone flat transposition.

If I open DP first to have 44.1K and then let DVR change it to 48K I get a semitone sharp playback in DP.

According to the manual DVR defaults to 48K and can only be set to this value or 96 and 192K. However I found the 44.1K option in the Fairlight Project Settings. Since I have no recollection of this issue before though I've had DVR and DP simultaneously running during several projects recently, I'm wondering if this behavior always has been there or is something that has appeared with the last update?
