New Installation will not open

PostTue May 30, 2023 8:30 pm

Hi. I just downloaded and installed Resolve (tried 18 and 18.5) and they appear to install fine, go thru the setup wizard, but the program will just not open. I uninstalled, cleaned the leftover files, and re-installed it several times with no luck.

I can't even see the program in Task Manager.

Here are my logs on dropbox like suggested on the forum:

I read thru a bunch of threads on here last night and tried a few different things listed below, but I'm still unable to get it to open.

Run as Administrator = Fail
Open in Compatibility Mode = Fail
Deleted everything in AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences = Fail
Updated all drivers including the video card = Fail

If you give us details of your system such as OS, version of Resolve - free or Studio, GPU and its driver, amount of RAM, etc etc, a forum member or members may be able to help. You can never give too much information.

You appear to have previously had an NVIDIA GPU installed, and the NVIDIA Management Library file is crashing Resolve when it's doing its GPU detect process.

You can try removing this file:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nvml.dll

And I expect that will solve the issue. But if not, use the DDU app to uninstall the NVIDIA GPU driver stuff on the system.

There exists a strange animal named "Windows Event Log" that will log program crashes (among many other things). I guess if the original poster had viewed it, he would have known that the program crashed at least ;)

It's nice to have experts around that know what's wrong!
