PostSun Aug 22, 2021 5:02 pm

I cant find ant way to get Resolve projects to default to something other than 24 FPS
Is there a way to do it or do I need to remember to do it manually every time?

Project Settings>Presets.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

That does not appear to work "System Config: The System Config contains the default Project Settings that are used for all new projects that you create, and consists of the installed defaults that accompanied DaVinci Resolve.
This config is uneditable, but you can use the Save As button to duplicate it as the basis for a
new preset. "

So it seems I can't change the default config. That is a real pain in the arse!!

Create a Preset with the specs you want, always start with that.

Chris, all my projects default to 25p
Panos pointed you to it already.

Go to you project's Master Settings... make sure it's configured exactly as you want/need.
Go to Presets, right click on Current Project and choose Save As User Default Config
That's it.
All new projects started by that user will have the same settings you just saved.

Cheers
Andy

Open Resolve as normal. Set in project your default desired settings and hit Save. Go back to project setting to Presets tab, highlight Current Preset on the list and then save it as eg. Default_25p. Now highlight this newly created 25p preset, right click on it and click "Set as user default Config".

Once you do it then if you start Resolve and choose its default project it will be 25p based.

I create a series of "Dummy Templates" that are all preset to the frame rate, aspect ratio, and other config settings that I need, including pre-built bins, timelines, everything (assuming this is a regular client). All I have to do is say, "OK, it's Client X, and we'll need 23.98fps and 1.78 HD," and I open that empty template, do a Save-As with the Client and Project name, then load media and start working.

My standard mantra is, "if I can't walk in the room and be billing the client and making money within five minutes, I'm doing something wrong." This method solves that problem -- assuming, of course, the media is already copied onto our system RAIDs.

This method no longer works. Your discussion helped me to find the right place though. In project settings, you need to click the three dots in the top right corner, as per the attached screenshot in the red box

Simply create an empty project to set to your liking and save to say 'my template'. When you need to start a new project open 'my template' and immediately save to new work name. In your case 25 or 50fps then you will need 2 default starting templates. Of course this method still relies on you selecting the correct template for your new project.
