I/O Device for 4k monitoring

PostWed Jun 07, 2023 3:06 pm

If I just want to connect a 4k monitor through an I/o device for a properly managed colorflow, is the only option the Ultrastudio 4k from Blackmagic? Don't really fancy paying for all the I/O that I'm not using, I just need the passthrough functionality.

Decklink Mini Monitor 4K is what I use.

Thanks for the info! Important detail, I'm on a laptop, I think the decklinks need a Pcie slot right?

Well, yeah :). You forgot to mention that. Aren't there like UltraStudio monitors as well?

Decklink for PC, UltraStudio for Mac. I just bought an UltraStudio 4K Mini on eBay for $600, new open box. And this is for a third system. Not a great expense at all, and we're just using it for monitoring.

Just to clarify, while it may seem like it in practice for obvious reasons, the two product lines don't explicitly target different operating systems. An UltraStudio works perfectly fine on a Windows PC. As does DeckLink on a Mac as long as you have a suitable PCIe port either internally or through a Thunderbolt PCIe enclosure.

And the latter might be your solution if you are monitoring stationary. PCIe enclosures are getting cheap these days second-hand, with the era of eGPUs coming to an end.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.
