Studio Version On One Laptop, Free Version on another?

PostSun Sep 24, 2023 6:00 am

Hi.
Recently upgraded to Studio Version which failed spectacularly on my old laptop. Big GPU fail.
Got new Laptop and transferred Studio version to it. All good.
I have deactivated Studio on the old laptop but wish to put the Free version back on that one since it worked fine for the most part.
Is this OK? Does it affect Studio Version on my other new machine.
I presume not but better ask in case.
Thanks.

Not problem at all, but did it fail when using Studio features or in general?
You know that you have two licenses for Studio, do you?
DaVinci Resolve is very capable even for free, but you need the right hardware!

Studio 18.6.3, MacOS 12.7.1
MacBook M1 Pro, 16 GPU cores, 32 GB RAM and iPhone 15 Pro
Speed Editor, UltraStudio Monitor 3G, iMac 2017

It failed in general. Crashing all the time and it was because of the lower end integrated GPU. It was never going to work because you could not update the integrated GPU.
New laptop had a RXT4080 graphics card which handles Studio fine.
The old laptop can handle the Free version. Yes, it lags at times but rarely crashes.

Hey, but if the GPU of your old laptop failed with the studio version, it wil fail with the free version too, I presume.

Are you low on memory? Your IGPU is sharing. That can mean not enough memory for anything.

Old laptop was an I7 with a 16GB RAM but an Intel 11th Gen Iris Xe graphics and no dedicated GPU.
I persisted with Studio for a week on the old machine with various tweaks but it was always a losing cause. It works with Free resolve.

I'm not going to say it would be fast but it shouldn't be crashing. Mine doesn't.

Reality is the colour page is the point you most notice the speed. The edit page for editing is okay.
