I solved the problem disconecting and conecting again the USB-Bluetooth adapter from my computer. Maybe in the computers with internal bluetooth adapter, it can be solved disabling and enabling the bluetooth adapter from device manager, or deinstalling and re-installing the bluetooth adapter from the device manager.

No difference. Touching keys before loading Resolve still works though as before. It is clear to me the Speed Editor shuts down to save power. Has to be switched on ( touch any key ) for Windows to see it then all is well. Bluetooth on the Speed Editor will have to be switched on for Windows to see it and if this is the case all the time the battery will run down. I am sure if it is left on a for a day or two it will run the battery down. I would prefer positive switch OFF and ON with some battery indication too.

In this case the you loose the fast start time from DR completely.
I stay until there is a better solution with the USB connection.

Fast start is still there as long a you just touch some keys on Speed Editor before you start. Not a big deal. Only need to reset BT in Windows after an update. At least that is the case for me.

Nope and nope...not in my case. After the 17.2.1 update I uninstalled and reinstalled my Speed Editor in my BT devices and it worked for one session until it went to sleep. Now nothing wakes it up. Not quiting and restarting DR. Not pushing keys on the editor. Not plugging in the Speed Editor to USB and unplugging it (which is what used to work in the 17.1 version).

The 'advanced feature' that I received in the 17.2.1 update is now DR is very slow to respond to my track ball. Pretty f#@%ing infuriating really!

Just a chance. Uninstall Resolve etc. Charge up Speed Editor with separate charger overnight. Re install Resolve, re-pair Speed Editor in Widows, update firmware, reset to factory and see if it works. Would be interested of course as this issue is going on a long time.

My Speed Editor (SE) always worked ok however that was until I updated to DR 17.2.1 & updated the SE's firmware when DR showed me an update was available. Now the SE will only work from the get go if plugged in via USB.

I also noticed that DR is now rather slow after starting up and will often crash & recover as the BT connection is continually being attempted. This behaviour is also shown in Windows 10 Device Manager (with the SE keyboard unplugged.) As the hardware/devices page keeps refreshing all the time as the BT connection is attempted but fails. Once I unpair the SE keyboard this behaviour stops.

I hope this can be fixed soon.

After windows restart in 17.2 SE did not work, but in 17.2.1 is working after system restart.

The issue for me was introduced in the 17.2 panels update. Uninstalling and reinstalling earlier versikns didn't help. However the speed editor now works perfectly. Even after a long sleep, any time resolve is running it connects as soon as I touch a key. What is weird is that all I did was roll windows back to an earlier version after the disasterous 17.2 panels and SE firmware update, then reinstalled 17.2 without the panels update. The speed editor then reconnected perfectly. I was then able to reinstall just the panels update and everything is fine. The 17.2.1 update also installed without creating any issues.

So the good news is that it does work! Unfortunately the dance you have to do to get it to work seems to vary wildly for different systems . Certainly not the smoothest of rollouts:) If you rely on your system for work it definitely pays to take a system disc image using something like Paragon or Acronis just in case before updating anything. It takes 10 minutes, and over the years has saved me many times, including this time.

It's clearly not a high percentage of systems but we believe this can help, so for now, if you have a pairing or maintaining a pairing problem, can you;

1) Unpair the keyboard if paired
2) Plug in Speed Editor via USB
3) Open DaVinci Control Panels Setup
4) Open Speed Editor and click/confirm Factory Reset
5) Unplug USB and re-pair Bluetooth

This should reset the pairing process and then maintain the connection.
Feedback for those that don't have improvement welcome

Peter... I tried that. And not only did it not connect the Speed Editor but it crashed my GPU! I got an error message 702, whatever that means. But within one or two seconds of the error message coming on, before I could even take a screen shot of it, my screen went black which I could not recover from and had to use the power switch to turn off the computer, then reboot.

I had Dell premium support on the phone for 3 hours trying to figure out how to fix it and the only thing that worked was finally restoring to a previous time. I don't know what the BMD programmers did in 17.2 to break something that was working well, but they need to figure out what it is. While there are several of us who have noted this issue, there are probably many who are just suffering in silence and/or just connecting via USB or just giving up on Davinci.

Speed Editor working perfectly here. It always automatically pairs when Resolve opens and has no detrimental affect on the running of Resolve.
If you are using an external usb Bluetooth adapter make sure the usb ports are not set to turn off.

The pc is turned off every day and is configured never to sleep or turn off the displays. I make sure that the Speed Editor has a good state of charge as well.

Mine will work as long as the PC is powered up. As soon as the PC is turned off and then back on it will not work unless I touch a key before loading Resolve then it will work every time. So at least for my system understanding is that when my system is turned off. Speed Editor goes to sleep when link is not present and will then not be present when PC is powered back up again. Touching keys wakes it up, Windows sees it, links and then available for Resolve. If I do not touch keys Speed Editor stays shut down. Battery level has no effect on this. Same characteristic with 98% or 25% battery. That is a test I did too. I have my Speed Editor on a shelf so when I pick up to start editor just touch a key and its fine.

My Bluetooth is a system wireless so not a USB dongle so has no power when turned off.

Based on the varied, similar and dissimilar responses I have to think that part of the malady or lack thereof has to do partially with the computer that runs DR 17.2 and the Speed Editor.

In my case one of the weirdnesses of the issue was that initially (before factory resetting Davinci Control Panels where I then experienced a total GPU crash) was that the computer's bluetooth recognized the Speed editor, though the SE would not become active. But in this scenario Davinci Resolve had major issues with pauses and stutters and delays as long as the inactive Speed Editor was present. Only when I removed the editor from the presence of the computer would Davinci return to normal function.

Something I just discovered by chance on my system. Having an internet browser open and then starting Resolve inhibits the Speed Editor from connecting. If you need the internet browser open whilst using Resolve open it after Resolve has started and, hopefully, the Speed Editor has connected.

this has probably already been mentioned, but people report as a workaround to disconnect the device and then reconnect while Resolve is closed. After reconnecting, the Bluetooth device indicator doesn’t fluctuate anymore, and should be functional when Resolve is started. It may be also necessary to hit a few buttons while Resolve is loading.

Part of the problem is that what helps one day doesn't necessarily help the next. The only thing that is known as a fact is that some programmer broke the connectivity of the Speed Editor on this latest update. I have to wonder if one can revert to an earlier version after having "updated" the Speed Controller? What's maddening is that Davinci Resolve kept throwing pop-up messages urging updating the Speed Controller, bringing a multitude of issues.

After days of responses within this and other threads documenting the issue I have to wonder where the BMD representatives who usually monitor the forum are, at least saying that they are aware of the issue and a fix is on the way?

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!!!!.... DING DING DING!!!!

I tried closing Chrome, my default browser, opened up Davinci Resolve and the Speed Editor came on as it should and did before and everything played back smoothly.
What I have not done yet is reopen the browser after I got everything fired up. I'm not working on a project at the moment and just wanted to test Charles observation which appears to be a good one. I'll have to do that another time.

I can't imagine how the programming would have a browser interfere with the function of DR and the Speed editor???

Shutting down web browsers doesn't work for me. Disconnecting and reconnecting Bluetooth doesn't work for me. Once I updated the Speed Editor and it worked twice. Then it stopped. Reset the Speed Editor and nothing changed. I contacted support and got one reply asking for some screen shots. Since then nothing even though I requested a status update.

Black Magic really needs to address this problem in a more open and efficient manner. I do understand their difficulty since the problem seems to present itself differently for different users. Still . . .

I too have been following this thread after my speed editor lost connectivity after the 17.2 update. And one question I had kept coming to mind was about the Speed Editor update itself. Is it a software only update or does it actually flash the chipset of the SE? Because even after using the reset utility I was still having issues. This is with two different Win 10 Pro machines. The thing is for me that it also worked perfect with both machines and never lost BT connectivity before the update using an Asus BT500 usb dongle with updated drivers.
I have worked through all of the add/remove reconnect normal windows operations and still had the same issue. I could connect it, but it would seem to go to sleep quickly.
As of now I currently have it the most stable it has been since the updates..
I have gone to the Services tab in Win 10 and changed the Bluetooth Audio Gateway and the Bluetooth Support Service tabs from manual start to automatic from the manual setting. Not sure if the next step also played a role but double clicking the Bluetooth Support Service tab in Services, I clicked the Recovery tab and set the Restart Service after setting to 0. If you choose to try this please understand it is at your own risk. The thing that led me to this was running the Windows troubleshooter by going to settings/update and security/troubleshooter and to the right additional troubleshooters. Every time I ran the BT troubleshooter when I had lost connectivity, it said it had fixed the issue and turned on BT. So who really knows. But after I had done that, I immediately had connection again. So a good part of this may be Windows issues as well.
Since these changes I am able to stay connected for much longer periods of time and even if the device goes to sleep, I have been able to get it going again by kitting keys such as the stop/play spacebar on the SE.
This may not do any good on other machines, who knows. Take into account Windows updates that have occurred during this time period, so who really knows. I do know this is a real time killer troubleshooting this and man it worked so good before. The speed editor is solid gold when working properly.
Also as Charles stated above, make sure your USB enable hibernation settings are set to not let windows turn them off in the power management settings in the event you are using a usb BT dongle.. Great advice for any workstations/daws that rely on usb to function.
Good luck everyone.

After updating to 17.2.2 and doing a reboot, my Speed Editor connected a couple of times - it appeared. Once the lights came on but the control did not work. Once it worked perfectly. Then I foolishly allowed the update to the Speed Editor and things fell apart again. I did the reset on the Speed Editor but it still doesn't work. There's something VERY strange going on here that I hope the tech guys can figure out. Don't envy them their job.

Did a full uninstall of Resolve. Re-installed latest version with SE hardwired. Reset factory defaults. Re-paired device in Windows.I thought the issue was solved, but soon after it started disconnecting again. Tried many things including uninstalling/reinstalling the BT500. Worked again for a few minutes, then disconnected again. Tried different usb 3 ports on the computer. Same results. Don't mind trying a different USB Bluetooth dongle, but from what I'm understanding most of them use the Realtek chipset. But I'm open to suggestions.
I did however find out that there is another power management setting beside the regular usb settings that have the ability to turn bluetooth devices off to conserve power and it is in the device manager under human interfaces. Unchecked it and no difference.
Disappointed but just going to order a couple of usb c cables long enough to work at both computers and be done with it. Something else I found was that sometimes even though it appeared to be connected with a red light on the jog button it was not functioning and able to transmit. So you may have in and out points set and then hit append or any command and nothing happened. You can really mess up an edit if you're moving quickly and thought it did something just because it was lit.
Unit works great hardwired so I don't think it is faulty.
Just ordered different(TP-Link 400) USB/Bluetooth dongle.

Speed Editor for me will still not start automatically after update to 17.2.2. Though now just touching keys will get it working. This an improvement as before I had to touch keys before launching Resolve. Now it does not matter if it is before or after. But still need keys touched to get it running if PC has been shut down for a while, like overnight.

For the moment the Speed Editor is actually working with Bluetooth! After a recent restart of my Win 10 computer and reconnecting the Speed Editor to Bluetooth, it has been working. I did have to disconnect and reconnect the Speed Editor once, but it appears that the demons have been exorcised, at least for now. It does seem to help to jiggle a few keys before starting DR. Hope this proves a permanent fix. I did do the update to the Speed Editor prior to the last restart of Win 10.

Very pleased to announce that after all of the failures with the Asus BT500, I ordered a TP Link UB400 yesterday from Amazon for $8.32 and it arrived today. It immediately connected and never lost radio contact at all in about 7 hours of use. Even when DaVinci was minimized or something else was in focus it never disconnected. Rock solid performance with the speed editor. Just tried it on a second machine and it connected and paired with no issues and I will test it for a while on this machine just to see if there are any issues, but none so far.
So if you have exhausted all resources on this, try a different dongle... I wish I had..LOL .Hours and hours wasted on a problem solved with $8.32.

One more thing noteworthy that may help someone else.
During my trouble shooting, Windows had a leftover instance of my previous dongle, the Asus BT500, still connected and a leftover instance of DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor in the device manager that I couldn't delete. (I have since switched to a TP Link UB-400 which works perfect.)
So I found out that in Windows in the device manager under "View" you can choose to "Show Hidden Devices" and then delete old ones that aren't used anymore. Cleared these out from the old dongle and old speed editor connection then re-paired the speed editor in Windows bluetooth "add device" with the new one and now Speed editor launches as it should every time DaVinci is started.. No need to touch or hold any keys. It lights up as DaVinci is launching. No more issues. Hope this helps!

I think you'll find that just hitting the "space bar" (the "STOP/PLAY" button) will also work and is less fiddly to do. The purpose of hitting a key when you first start using Resolve is to power up the keyboard, because it powers itself down after a period of disuse in order to conserve its battery.

17.2.2 has fixed the problem where you had to wake up the keyboard before starting Resolve. In previous versions if you forgot to press a keyboard button first then you'd have to shut down Resolve and start it up again in order to get the keyboard to connect. Now it will connect even if Resolve is already running.

It seems that pretty much all the Speed Editor Bluetooth issues I've seen people complaining about boil down to either people not realizing they have to hit a key to wake the keyboard up or issues surrounding Bluetooth radio frequency signal strength and connectivity, including things like poor Bluetooth adapters, motherboards without an RF antenna installed, or issues of having the Bluetooth adapter stuck into the back of a system where it doesn't have a clear signal path to the keyboard.

Hi,

My hardware id is BTHLE\Dev_cc86ec2f10b5
Speed editor works sometimes when I do some tricks like add extra bluetooth dongle even my computer already has one built in.

Then without changing anything next time I start Resolver it does not work at all.

There is really something wrong with Resolve how it searches those devices.
It seems it does not do proper search and there is no indication at start when it has found speed editor.
And there should really be a bluetooth search function after starting Resolve. Now control panel is empty and pressing add will ask for a ip address. How can you find out speed editor's ip address anyway.

Speed Editor is updated to latest version (Version 1.4.2, Build 612a7747) and fully charged (99% currently). I have tried factory reset, re-adding speed editor to bluetooth device list. Nothing really works. Please help, dont want use speed editor via usb.

I am using Windows 10.
