We also need a Resolve log file.

But looking at the NFO, it appears you are using Resolve 15 beta 1. And its upset with something Windows related. Probably a Windows update broke it. But why are you using Resolve 15 beta 1? Totally not supported.

Your machine specs are also totally not supported. 4GB of system RAM is not enough to run Resolve. I'm surprised any version ever worked for you. But if you want to try and keep running 15, then try the last release version: 15.3.1 and see what that does.

If you are using H.264/265 high res source footage, that's CPU decoded on the free version, and might not perform well.

When you say preview is laggy/choppy, what specifically does that mean? Playing footage on the Edit page?

Any other format that can take advantage of the RTX2060 on the free version?

The laggy/choppy is playing the preview on the edit or cut pages.

Anything in DNxHD/HR, Cineform or ProRes should profit from your strong GPU.
It's only H.264 and H.265 slowing you down in the free version on PC.

@Fabio: Right, your UHD 59.94 H.265 .mp4 files are probably going to be a struggle. Have you tried using the Optimized Media and Render Cache features? They should help for these types of scenarios.

BTW, makes sense to convert the media to another format like ProRes before I even start the project to take advantage of the GPU?

Whether it makes sense to convert the media outside of Resolve, or use the Resolve tools for similar, you'll need to determine. Or perhaps others can comment.

I'll note that ProRes is not a GPU accelerated file format. That's all CPU based. But the other 2 Uli mentioned are GPU accelerated.

On the PC, I'd say Cineform is a really good choice, even for optimized media in lower resolution.

Not sure what's going on. You appear to have the current NVIDIA driver installed, but the GPU doesn't seem to be behaving regarding OpenGL.

Go into the BIOS settings and see if there is anything related to graphics settings. Ideally, you want the NVIDIA GPU to be the main or primary GPU, and the AMD GPU disabled or secondary. If there are any options that look like that, try them and see if that helps.

Dwaine, video playback is available now, but then another problem shows up, this time when I click on smt, or dragging the timeline, everything going slow, lagging n sometimes, it hangs. Is my laptop spec isn't compatible with the resolve 16, or is there any solution

Send a project export .drp of a project you are seeing this in. And a new Resolve log.

Actually most of my projects have this problem, I not sure is it because the files are from resolve 15, but I provide the one with the most serious problem,

I recently bought the new PC,and downloaded Davinchi Resolve16.
But there's a problem.

I'm unable to play/preview video clips on my timeline in Resolve 16.
I am using a Win 10 Home Desktop with 16GB RAM and a GTX1660 6GB Graphics Card.
CPU is Core i7-9700K.

Both the preview windows appear black, but when I double click the video on timeline, I see the picture of the clip appear on the preview window...and then it goes back to Grey.

I can hear audio while scrubbing and/or pressing the play buttons.
And only Fusion page,I can see the video playing.

Please help me.

Have u installed a NVIDIA driver for that GPU? Which one?
What is the clip type user trying to play?
If u put the color bars DP from the edit page effects library do u see those bars?

Sorry, DP was a typo.. please see the FAQs for details on how to generate a log and NFO file and post a link to both so someone can investigate.

Okay,Here is my NFO file and log.
I hope someone can fix this problem.

I just bought a new computer and have the same problem. There is no video image playing.
The sound is fine, but no video image.
Computer is a new Dell XPS i9
Nvidia GEForce RTX 2060 GDDR6

I had no problem running Resolve on my old laptop, but no "video" on this new computer, audio only.
Can you help?

Or, remove the display from the onboard graphics connector.

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).


Then open Windows System Information and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here.

I was in the midst of editing a project this evening when suddenly playback went from smooth as normal to completely gone. No audio, no video, a totally blank preview window. Unedited clips are playing back in other programs, except Resolve.

[Update] I had batch imported some stills into the Media Pool, one of which was a PNG that broke Resolve (never seen this before!). Not sure what was wrong with the file, but removing it from the Media Pool and Resolve was back in action like nothing had happened. Leaving the details up in case anyone else has a similar issue.

I don't see any particular errors in your logs.

What is your specific issue? Screen shots, if you have them. Is it happening with all media types?

I'm not able to deal with the image in the video files out of a GH5. It looks like only audio is present but no video. Attached is a screenshot.

I can play others that have been converted previously (like a proxy from Premiere), so I guest is related to codecs.

Very likely those files are not supported on free Resolve.

Your MediaInfo screenshot doesn't show what the bit depth is. If they are 10 bit files, they are definitely not supported.

If you'd like to provide a link to one of the files, we can absolutely verify if that's the issue.

Yep... They are 10 bit depth. Ok. I've read the documentation and they should be compatible with the Studio versión. Could you confirm this, please?

I think I'll convert the files then and try the free version against Premiere before deciding to purchase the Studio version. I've read great things about it.

Hi, I did what you asked and downloaded previous versions of resolve. But now it just has a blank white screen if you make an untitled project or open other previous projects and nothing will appear no matter how long you wait. It happened with all versions (14, 15, 16) but sometimes it works although again, there's no playback.
So my whole problem is either there's no playback or it's a blank white screen haha.
Current version that I'm keeping for now in my laptop is 16.2.4
I just don't get why it's not working anymore, I've been using it for more than 2 years.

You have a very old Intel HD graphics driver installed.

Try installing the current driver that's on the Acer support site:

I just bought a refurbish HP 8300 desktop 32 g ram, 1TB HD I7 processor

I have some files both MOV and BRAW. I cant get any of them to play on the i\timeline or in the media section of Davinci 16.

I seem to have the same issue.

I've uploaded an image and put in a text sequence which aren't showing in the preview/playback frame.

I then did the NRF and resolve log files.

Thereafter I added an audio file to see if it would play that. Sadly it could not play that either. I tried to move the cursor? (the red line thing... dont know its technical term ) to see if I could hear or see anything, but that didn't work either. It just stood still where I move it to, even after I clicked playblack.

I´m having this same issue with the video playback/preview. Since I installed Davinci for the first time a couple of months ago, sometimes it works but others it doesn´t show anything in the preview panel and it just play audio, when that happens I need to restart my laptop or uninstall and reinstall Davinci and usually it works again.

I´ve updated everything and I´ve tried to reinstall the drivers of my graphics card but I keep having the same issue so I don´t know what else to do. We only support Windows 10. You are using Windows 8.1. We have a minimum system RAM requirement of 16GB. You have 4GB. We have a GPU VRAM minimum of 2GB. Your Intel HD4400 has 1.4GB.

All of which is to say, Resolve is not going to work on that system.
