The Capture Logs app does not work.
The issue is some missing rights...

But I installed latest
Desktop Video 11.7
DaVinci Resolve 17.1b1

And here it runs!
Thank you BM-Team!

Whatever it was - it's not an issue anymore.

Very good news for Intel machines on Big Sur running BMD’s latest updates. Thanks for sharing your update experience.

Definitely!

But as Resolve is 90% of my job, it's always good to know it's future proof. ;)

Now, beta testing!

I think you mean 17.1 but i believe that is for M1 machines only and not a general big sure release.

Resolve and MacOS BigSur

PostFri Nov 13, 2020 7:43 pm

Erik, Glenn, and Mark:
I can only conclude that the 17.1b1 universal binary support includes code that runs on the M1 system-on-a-chip and code that runs under the Intel and associated chips on our ‘old’ machines. It’s not running Rosetta2 to convert code if you have installed Big Sur.

It seems 17.1b1 build 3 also works on Mojave and Catalina but since the only change in 17.1b1 is support of the universal binary for M1 machines, it’s not beneficial for non-M1 machines to run anything later 17.0b1 build 7 at this time.

Yet Peter Chanberlain clearly says 17.1b1 build 3 runs on Big Sur so that seems to be an endorsement to upgrade to that anyway for Intel based machines.

In my case, the 17.1b1 just works in opposite of the 17.0b1.
So there should be more than just M1 support.

Yes, I think there might be more as described by the Readme which includes other improvements in addition to Big Sur support. .

I have the exact same issue. No version of DV runs on Big Sur.

I have tried the last two 16.xx versions + Betas + both 17 beta versions. Everything ran fine on Catalina, but now I can’t get ANY version to work in Big Sur. DV freezes after I open a project and can only be shut down with Force Quit.

I have even tried reinstalling Big Sur.

I’m aware of the risk of beta issues, but very frustrating that I can’t run any version of DV at all on Big Sur.

11.xx maybe won't do it.
Latest is 11.7 or 12beta.

I have Desktop Video Setup ver. 12 (from 13.11.2020).

After another fresh reinstall of Big Sur - and having installed Desktop Video, I tried to install DV 17 Beta. The installation process was suspiciously fast and now I can't even open DV 17 Beta.

The DV icon just keeps bouncing in the dock.

There are so many variables.

Uninstall all Resolve and Desktop Video Driver versions.
Then install new versions and start with a new database.

I have exactly the same problem!

I downloaded Big Sur on my "Mid 2014 Mac Book Pro" and DaVinci Resolve 16 crashes after 2 or 3 minutes in the editor mode.

Should I download the Beta of Resolve 17?

All the Best,

I installed Da Vinci 17.1.1 yesterday, after working with Beta version for months. Unfortunately, I also upgraded my Mac Pro OS to Big Sur 11.2.3 and now Da Vinci crashes as I open my project.
After tons of coffee and prayers, I realized that even Premiere doesn't work. So, I argued that something was wrong with Ultrastudio 4K. Did the update to latest version (12) and the result is: when Ultrastudio 4K is connected Resolve does not start at all, Premiere starts but crashes; when disconnected, everything works well.
Now the problem is: how can I control my job without an external monitor? I need something future proof instead of Ultrastudio?

Would adding an appropriate Decklink card to the Mac Pro work for you? I have Catalina on my Mac Pro (late 2019) yet so I’m quite appreciative of you sharing your experience and the resolution to your problems.

I have an UltraStudio 4K mini, did a fresh install of Big Sur rather than an upgrade, and installed Desktop Video only after installing Resolve. Projects open and work just fine (obviously there are bugs but not related to your problem).
