Your NFO file indicates you've got an HD display connected to the onboard graphics port, in addition to the 2560x1440 display connected to the RTX4080.

Resolve does not like having displays on multiple GPUs. If you disconnect the display from the onboard graphics port, does that make the issue go away?

That's weird since I've had the multiple displays for a while and they never gave me trouble when rendering i'll try removing one and see what happens

Can you detail exactly what you removed, as it may help other uses in a similar situation?

Sure all anyone has to do is if they have the AMD Adrenalin software installed and that could be either the full suite or just the drivers they would need to uninstall that and reset their pc's and that should fix the issue

Well, yes, you are using an NVIDIA GPU, so you wouldn't need AMD Adrenalin sw installed. Did you previously have an AMD GPU installed?

We have seen scenarios where replacing an NVIDIA GPU with an AMD GPU has issues with the residual NVIDIA driver components installed, and needing to use DDU to totally remove the NVIDIA driver. So I suppose the reverse could also be true.

No i've always had NVIDIA GPU's the only reason the Adrenalin sw was even installed at all was when my PC was built i had downloaded and installed the drivers from my mb page and before this it honestly never had any issues with the NVIDIA drivers or even with davinci so its funny in a way how that turned out to be the cause of my problem

i have some problem with updated to DR20 from 19.14
can't render h264 Nvidia - my project is very simle: 1 prores HD file on timeline and no effect or any correction, simle render from prores to h264.
Reinstall DR or update Nvidia - no result.
I'm delete other codecs x264 x265 mainconcept from C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\IOPlugins and all works!
previewsly i'm used
x264_encoder.dvcp.bundle
x265_encoder.dvcp.bundle
x265_encoder_10b.dvcp.bundle
CPU i9-10940X
RAM 96Gb
GPU RTX3070+RTX3080 latest studio driver
Win11Pro 24H2
Resolve Studio 20 usb dongle

Hi everyone, :geek:

Just wanted to share a fix for an issue I encountered with DaVinci Resolve when trying to export using QuickTime + H.264 and the NVIDIA hardware encoder on my Asus ROG ASTRAL RTX 5090 LC OC.

The export kept failing with the following error:

"Cannot find appropriate codec"

After digging a bit, I discovered that the issue was caused by a conflict with the MainConcept codec pack installed on my system.

✅ Solution:
I uninstalled the MainConcept software, restarted DaVinci Resolve, and the export using QuickTime + H.264 + NVIDIA encoder started working perfectly.

So if you're getting this error and you're using NVIDIA hardware encoding, check if you have MainConcept installed — removing it solved everything for me.

Hope this helps! :D

Did you try to update the MainConcept plug-in? AFAIK, they have a recent update that should fix it.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Issue After Upgrading to DaVinci Resolve 20 Public Beta – “Cannot Locate Appropriate Codec” (MainConcept Plugin Conflict)

Hi everyone,

I was previously using DaVinci Resolve Studio 19 without any issues. However, after upgrading to version 20 Public Beta, I started encountering the following error when attempting to render:

Error: Cannot find appropriate codec for encoding the video frame

This was especially frustrating as I'm in the middle of a large project. Many of my clients review final deliverables on their phones and TVs, so compatibility is critical. The “MainConcept” H.264/H.265 render option was causing playback issues on some of their devices, which understandably led to client dissatisfaction.

I’ve never been a fan of the MainConcept plugin due to these compatibility problems, so I initially planned to update or replace it. Instead, I ended up uninstalling it and forgot to follow up. Later, while researching a solution, I came across a suggestion on this forum recommending the manual deletion of certain plugin files. thanks to ["Iliya Gitlin"]

Following that advice, I navigated to this directory:

C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\IOPlugins\

davinci_mc_ultra_plugin.dvcp
mcplugcore.dll

After restarting Resolve, the problem was resolved. I'm not entirely sure whether the fix was due to removing the third-party plugin entirely or just those specific files, but it worked. Given the time-sensitive nature of my work, I don’t plan to investigate further.

It seems the issue stemmed from Resolve getting “confused” after the update, particularly due to the presence of the MainConcept plugin.

For context, here are my system specs (which are not the source of the issue):

CPU: Intel Core i9-13900HX
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4060
RAM: 16 GB DDR4

Hopefully, this helps others who encounter the same error.
Best regards,
Previous
