Where's the Serial Number in Resolve?

Hello,

where can I enter the activation key für DaVinci 18? During the installation process they don't ask me for the key. In the software I don't find an option to put in.
On the prompt there are only to options: "not yet" or buy.

I brought a camera and get a key.

When you run the Studio version for the first time you will get a screen like this which is where you enter the Activation code.

If you can not maintain sanity while trying to recover a lost licence key, and you don’t have a speed editor, or are looking at a BMD camera or colour panel, now is the time yo buy new hardware with an included new studio 2 seat licence.

Some of those bundle deals are outstanding good value.

I purchased (from an official dealer) the studio+micro panel bundle for $100 less than the bare panel list price six months ago.

I have just installed the latest version of 18.1.3 Build B from the support page as the direction indicated and I did not get a prompt to enter the activation key. I also can not tell if it is the free version or the full version as of yet since I have not run files in it from the camera. Any input would be appreciated.

You probably downloaded the free DaVinci Resolve 18.1.3 instead of DaVinci Resolve Studio 18.1.3.

Just scroll down to the next entry in the list on https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/family/davinci-resolve-and-fusion.

When you open Resolve the first splash screen will tell you if it is the Studio version.

Dev, on the main website page click on the flag top right. Then select your country. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Resellers under the Support heading.

I have found the Serial Number for those still looking.

This was on Mac, not sure about PC, but I'm guessing it's somewhere similar if you choose to dig around.

YourLocalHD --> Library --> Application Support --> Blackmagic Design --> Davinci Resolve --> Certificates

Click on the Blackmagic.pem file then hit spacebar to open the file in Finder.

You'll find your Serial Number about 1/3 of the way down.


It's crazy to me that none of the Blackmagic employees within this thread knew this enough to be able to help people in a 5-year-old thread.

A pem file is a certificate file. While certificates have serial numbers they are not the activation key for DaVinci Resolve.

If the activation key was easy to get to, people would be stealing them.

An Activation key contains 25 letters and numbers.

Wait, are we talking about activation keys or serial numbers? This board's title is "Where is the Serial Number in Resolve?" correct? Or did I miss something?

Well, it's hard to decide which one people actually want to know about. The card with the Activation Key on it also has its own serial number. Also, when you click to download the Studio version the first screen where you can enter your details has the Serial number top right. Now whether this is the serial number of the currently installed version is unclear. If you received the Studio version when purchasing a Blackmagic camera for instance, the Serial number is that of the hardware as they are linked for support purposes.

In any case, the serial number of a digital certificate has nothing to do with it.

Skimmed through this, possibly too quickly...

Is there no way of finding which activation code has been used on a system? I have 2 or three activation codes, and I do not remember where they are activated. Rather than just kicking a system off, it would be good to know which system has which activation.

Not possible. I'd suggest if you want to know which activation code is on a specific system, to deactivate the license (in the Resolve Help menu) and reactivate it with a known code.
