DR 16.1 Video Clean Feed

I'm really excited to see this feature finally implemented, but unfortunately, I can't find any information about it in the official manual.

I have 2 questions so far:
1. How to calibrate an external monitor? I'm on Mac OS, and hopefully, everything should 'just work' here, but I believe there can be a catch somewhere.
2. How to turn on window outlines on the 2nd monitor? View —> Window Outline (on/off/Only UI) doesn't seem to change anything.

How you calibrate will depend on your calibration hardware and what delivery medium you are trying to match. But regardless of the target, the process will be the same as for any other app because Resolve is not sending a "video" signal, it's just a fullscreen preview window being drawn to screen by the OS.

Put more simply, if you are delivering for broadcast, calibrate that display for REC709. If you're delivering online, calibrate for sRGB. And forget about HDR, at least for now.

Many are going to tell you not to use this feature for judging color. While it is certainly true it has a wider margin of error compared to a more "professional" pipeline, a calibrated, decent quality monitor, will get you most of the way there, and is perfectly serviceable for a wide variety of projects.

2. I believe the answer is "You can't." It's a clean feed.

I can't find any information about it in the official manual.

Same here. Several of the 'workspace menu' options are incomprehensible to me and I can't find anything about them in the manual, as extensive as it is.
What is the difference between 'Video Clean Feed' and 'Cinema Viewer'?
Enabling the option does not seem to do anything for me.

Is there any more information on what signal is being sent?

What about the clean feed in the fusion tab? Is there a way to load the fusion view lut that you can load on the viewer? At the moment I have to change the source color space and gamma of the background clip to "space" and I get an image that is close to the viewer but I have to do it every time to every clip I load to fusion...

What is the signal of Video Clean Feed?

I just got rid of the old JVC SDI NTSC toob monitor and am looking to streamline my studio for web delivery.
Decklink fan is too loud, pitching it.

Wanting to use Nvidia 2070s to output HDMI to a decent Dreamcast/BenQ/Asus (calibrated with Displaycal)for web delivery color correcting.
Wondering how clean the "Clean Feed" is?

I've been trying to calibrate my non-professional 'reference' monitor so I can use it with the Video Clean Feed.

So far it looks like Resolve always bypasses any calibrated profile I set in the OS. This is also the case with 'Use Mac OS color profiles for viewers' turned on. If I set the monitor to some crazy profile like ACES in Mac OS preferences the image goes almost completely black, but when I enable the video clean feed it looks fine (indeed, very clean).

So calibrating the monitor in the OS won't help.

I'm currently looking for a way around this, will let you know if I find anything useful.

Well, just like for an I/O device you'll need a monitor that can be calibrated by loading LUTs into it or has its own calibration.

As I'm on a budget, this isn't really an option for me.

It would be nice if Resolve also had an option 'Use Mac OS profile for Video Clean feed.'

But then I suppose BM would be less likely to sell me a decklink card..

Maybe an output LUT from a calibration device works.

I have studied this question thoroughly and have arrived at the following sequence of calibrating the second monitor to use the "video clean feed" function:

- for the reference monitor in this case you need a model with a built-in 3DLUT, which will give you the widest possible gamut and native color space to further adjust it to the color space of the project;

- after that, the monitor should measured to compile 3DLUT for the used color space of the project(REC.709/sRGB). This 3DLUT will "trim" the monitor's native color space and correct the output signal through the "video clean feed".

Logically you get the correct color and a true reference monitor.

If all this is true, it begs the question: if Blackmagicdesign included such a feature in Davinci Resolve they take a risk with sales of devices like DeckLink, etc. Where is the logic?

I have now tried experimenting again. I put the same crazy profile in MacOS and turned on the Video clean feed, but the MacOS profile worked on the monitor, even though I have disabled the function of using it in Davinci. How did you do it?
