Reverting NVIDIA driver fixed my DRS 16.1 crashes

PostMon Oct 28, 2019 12:51 am

Just a heads-up in case this is helpful to anyone else seeing similar results:

I'm running the DRS 16.1.0.55 (release version) on the latest Windows 10 Pro 1903 release (build 18362.449). Intel i7-5820K @ 3.30GHz, 32GB RAM. BRAW 1.5.1 is installed.

DRS 16.1 (and several years previous versions) have always been crash-free for me.

However, this weekend I updated the NVIDIA driver for my 980ti GPU from version 436.48 to 440.97 and now crash crash crash when attempting to do anything with Pocket 4K BRAW (4K DCI Q0) files in brand new bare-minimum test projects. My Pocket 4K cam is running latest firmware v6.6.

I reverted back to NVIDIA driver 436.48 and now my system works fine again with the same media in new test projects. No more crashes.

I have automatic crash reporting turned on in DRS 16.1, so hopefully the app has sent details to Blackmagic Design.

Cheers.

You should be using the studio edition drivers which are on a more stable base for creative work

There are no studio drivers on the NVIDIA website for this particular card.

Just to follow up:

I updated DRS to version 16.1.1 and it also works fine with BRAW clips and my 980ti GPU (6GB VRAM) and the old NVIDIA 436.48 driver.

But like DRS 16.1, DRS 16.1.1 crashes almost immediately if I update to the latest 441.08 driver, and then attempt to do anything with 4K BRAW clips in brand new barebones test projects. Once again, if I revert back to the 436.48 driver everything is fine again; no crashes.

As before, I have crash reporting enabled in DRS so hopefully that'll give BMD the info they might want.

I wonder if perhaps the 436.48 driver might be the "end of the line" for my old 980ti GPU, or is there a chance BMD might be able to address this issue?
