DCP Creation and Dailies

PostSat Nov 09, 2019 1:12 am

Hey so quick Q:

Do I need the dailies for third party companies to make a DCP of my film?

If not, would my having my dailies and project file linked to said dalies in Resolve create a better DCP file?

What is the top-level standard practice for making DCPs?

I ask mainly because everytime I look up "how to make a DCP" it says that I have to do it in Resolve.

Thanks in advance.

You can do it in many apps. Resolve is not the best DCP tool out there.
The most important is that DCP should be done from highest possible quality source. If your original material was from good camera then you export 16bit TIFF sequence and do DCP encoding from it with whatever tool you want. Things like Cineform RGB, ProRes444, DNxHR 444 are a minimum as source for DCP, but best if it's 12bit (or more) uncompressed format.
