Resolve panels & remote access: connect external IP panel

PostThu Nov 14, 2019 7:46 pm

In a bind, I'll sometimes have to use remote access to get into a resolve project.

It would be great to remote in to my main resolve workstation, and change the IP address of the control surface to a remote IP. (For example so that I could control it with a resolve mini panel in my apartment.)

Is there a specific port I could forward? (I'd forward that port from the public IP to the panel's local IP. And enter just the public IP in the manual configuration.)

Any other thoughts on how I could do this?

Thanks,
Blase

I did a port scan on the mini panel when its not connected to resolve, and no ports are open.

But when resolve does connect to it, it finds it, and it opens the port.

(I'm not an expert in network stuff, so I'm probably not understanding how stuff works.)

So I assume Resolve is connecting to the panel somehow to trigger it to open, on some other port than the one I've forwarded.

Thoughts?

Well I figured out how to do it. (operate my office resolve workstation from my apartment mini panel)

But realized I maybe should not be posting BM port info on the internet, for security reasons. If you need this info, PM me.

MODERATORS, if this should not be public info, please also let me know.

I'm not sure how you'd do it through a VPN, though maybe I'm missing something obvious.

I just found the port the panel needs, and created a UDP forwarding rule on the (home) router its connected to.

Then on the main (office) workstation, use that (home) router's external IP.

If you get it working on VPN though, please mention.

Also, I'm going to set up remote USB panels at some point as well. Haven't dug into it but, here's the basic idea:

https://www.net-usb.com/

The mini panel is fantastic for my apartment, but too big to travel with. I keep an FSI 17", an x-keys 80, and a Tangent Ripple in my travel laptop bag. (Along with some power cables and a small 4g/Lte router for connectivity.)
