Retime process issue with multicam project

PostWed Nov 20, 2019 6:10 pm

Hello,

I'm using Davinci Resolve 16.1.1 in a multicam project. In such case, whatever the retime process chosen, the result is the same (kind of frame blend). Optical Flow result is particularly disappointing...
However when taking the clip alone (not from the multicam timeline) it looks fine.

Probably a limitation with multicam to be known...

Some more details would be necessary to clarify what you're trying.

Applying retime process to one of the clips within the multicam makes no sense, because that would then blow up the sync between angles. Is this a retime to the entire multicam clip after the angle selections have been made?

Yes, this is a retime applied after having selected the angle.

.. it doesn't work work in multicam even in version 17.4
I had to find the same clip and cut the part I wanted to retime and paste it above the multicam clip and then it worked...

It doesn't work in version 18 either. Extremely disappointing that high-impact bugs like this go unfixed for years and years.

It works but you need to open the multicam, select the clips inside and enable optical flow in the inspector, then you can retime the multicam itself and have optical flow

So it’s possible to make it work but it’s not intuitive and likely to make people think it’s broken - as it did here.

Hopefully it’ll be adjusted to work as the OP expected.

Just found out that a retime process is applied to multicam clips by default if your master setting's frame interpolation isn't set to nearest. Even if you don't retime the clip!
I had an issue with a multicam with no speed effects applied. It was showing speed interpolation artefacts ( like warping and messy edges around fast moving hands ). Setting the project's frame interpolation to nearest was the solution.
Don't know if it is intended but the least to say is that it is a bit tricky.
