DaVinci Resolve failed to backup

PostFri Dec 27, 2019 10:31 pm

Good afternoon, my name is Javier Ayala and Im currently having a problem while editing a video in DaVinci Resolve Studio 16. As I'm working the following message keeps popping up:

I've tried to change the permissions in all of the folders I'm working in to "Read & Write" but its not fixing the problem. What can I do?

Thanks for your time.

In Resolve Preferences - User - Project Save and Load, you can see the Project backup location.

Whatever location you have selected there, apparently Resolve does not have permission to write there.

Ok, so I've found the location, but how to I give Davinci the permission to write there?

You don't. You need to select a location that Resolve can write to.

I have received the same message since updating to 18.1.2 Studio. I have tried two different m.2 drives and even changed the permissions to allow Davinci to have full access. the backups seem to get written but I keep getting the message.

I kept getting this problem/message today a few times, and couldn't understand why as I hadn't changed the cache location for over a year, and it has always been working. I soon realised that the drive where the cache was writing to was running out of space quite considerably.

I deleted various files/folders on the same drive where the Cache files were being written to, and, touch wood, I haven't had the same problem so far.

This popup started popping up every couple of minutes since I upgraded to 18.6. It's so obnoxious I'm going back to Premiere until I can find a fix. It's happening on my laptop and my desktop. Literally pops up every couple of minutes.

I've cleared the cache, set up new folders on the internal SSD as well as the removable SSD, nothing works.

A Resolve diagnostics log (generate from the Resolve Help menu) and a Mac System Information .spx file could be helpful in troubleshooting the issue.
