Mac Pro 2019 GPU question

PostWed Dec 16, 2020 7:53 pm

What happens if you uncheck GPU Auto and then try to use one of the W5700X for the GUI and one for the General purpose GPU?

Then see if you use one GPU for GUI and the external card for the Radeon VII. I suspect the external card may be slowing things down. How is the external card accessed, what’s housing the external card?

What monitor is used for the GUI?

The Radeon VII is on a Razor Core X. I will try what you suggested to isolate, but in the past my speed when rendering a 1080 60p is way faster than 21 frames.

Sorry that didn’t help but good to know your setup was good. Something would appear to be slowing things down though.

I am doing many long ProRes videos this week for a client so I’ll post what my experiences are using the Pro Vega II 32GB GPU. My files are coming from a RAID5 over Thunderbolt 2.

Mac Pro 2019 GPU question

Perhaps the problem is on the Deliver page. Our Mac Pros are both 16 core and 48 GB.

I have my media source on the external RAID5 but I write my deliverables to the 8TB internal SSD so there’s no issue with disk seek times. I process ProRes HD 30 fps to deliver h.264 video. In the first pass, I get an average of 230 fps with 90% GPU usage and less than 20% CPU. I use Multipass and that’s much slower than the first pass with about 45% GPU usage and 12% CPU. My video timeline was 44’26” and it rendered in 17’15”. My video rendered to just under 6 GB.

In terms of the number of frames, my video would be over 22’ at 60 fps.

When I tried limiting the render speed to 100 fps, the GPU usage was over 50% or over 16 GB. So I think that may possibly be a limiting factor for your system with the Radeon VII and the W5700X limited to 16GB.

Did you set your Render Speed to “maximum” and write your output file to the internal SSD?

Are you running the Activity Monitor to show CPU and GPU usage?
