Rendering freezes for individual clips
Hi all,
I am writing because I have issues with Davinci freezing during the rendering of a series of individual clips. I have tried many things (detailed underneath) and nothing works, I am completely running out of ideas…
Detailed description of the issue:
I trie to render a series of short clips (20 - 30s each). The rendering is set on individual clips. I have about 20 clips to render.
A very basic color grading on each clip (temperature, contrast, color boost, etc…)
The rendering happens to freeze randomly always at the beginning of a new clip: the rendering gets stuck and the remaining time keeps going up. My computer fans slow down which means no real calculation is done.
The davinci window remains partially reponsive: I can click on stop but I cannot close the task. I can quit and save. However, when I close DaVinci, although the window will indeed close, I can observe in my dock that DaVinci is still active and I have to force quit.
As said, the freezing always occurs when reaching a new clip. I have observed that in the export folder, no new file appears for the clip that froze. The cursor in the timeline does crosse the spliting line between the 2 clips for about a frame or 2 but won’t go beyond that (see picture).
It seems to me as if DaVinci fails at creating a new file for the new clip for some reasons ( I can be wrong on this, just my feeling)
Other observation that could be related:
The rendering works fine if instead of individual clips, I render a single clip. However, at the end of the rendering, DaVinci seems to be partially stuck, and same as above, I can close the window but have to force quit the process.
It has never failed at rendering the very first clip, It always occurs later.
Things I tried:
(EVERYTHING I COULD!
)
I updated the CUDA driver to its present version (see below): no improvement.
I reseted the NVRAM: no improvement
I tried to export to a different disk: usually internal hard drive, but I tried external drives as well: no improvement
I reinstalled the OS (initially Mojave): no improvement
I updated the OS to Catalina (see below): no improvement
Davinci version: 16.1.2.026
macOS Catalina version: 10.15.3
MacBook Pro retina, 15-inch late 2013
Processor 2.6Ghz Quad core Intel Core i7
Memory: 16GB 1600 Mhz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2GB Intel Iris Pro 1536MB
CUDA Driver version: 418.163
GPU driver version: 355.11.11.10.10.143
See the logs attached
My overall feeling is that DaVinci fails at completely qitting a rendering process that ends, hence the reason why it won’t fail on very the first clip, might fail at creating a new file for a next clip, and fail at quitting completely a single clip rendering.
Any idea would help, I could indeed consider rendering a single clip, but that would considerably increase my workload!
Thanks for help!!
