Clips appear upside-down after generating optimized media

PostSun Feb 09, 2020 10:58 pm

Hi all,

I'm new to Resolve. Our company recently switched from Premiere. I've done my best to read through forum posts and the manual (and double check I'm not doing something stupid), but I can't seem to wrap my head around this one.

Due to the nature of our work, many of the clips we edit with are filmed upside-down. Easy enough. Select all > flip horizontal, flip vertical. However, I've noticed that after generating optimized media from our h264 originals (DNxHR HQ quarter res - 720P from QHD), some of the clips revert and appear upside-down again. If I go to playback and toggle "Use optimized media if available", the problem clips will flip with each toggle.

Is anyone else having this issue? Or knows a workaround?

Currently, I just uncheck "Use optimized media if available" when I'm ready to export a client proof and do a once-over on the timeline to flip any upside-down clips. Not the end of the world, but there can be hundreds of clips and the flipping is random. I'm bound to miss one someday...

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Your work flow is...unusual.

You might try a Transcode, rather than Optimized Media. You could bake the flip in that way.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Not so unusual. Filming with a gimbal in suitcase mode, for example.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

That's exactly right. We shoot with a Ronin-M inverted instead of underslung.

Thanks for the advice, Jim. Transcoding is certainly an option. We usually do have a single transcode of 'pre-flipped' best takes before it reaches Resolve, but sometimes we don't have that luxury. In those instances I do prefer generating optimized media for only chosen takes to save time and disk space.

Just curious to see if this behaviour was a known bug.
