Selecting clips in the Edit Index

PostFri Feb 21, 2020 9:20 pm

Hi all,

I have all of my clips in the timeline, and throughout the project, there are specific clips I'd like to un-enable on the timeline. I can click on the clip in the Edit Index, and it will move the timeline to that clip. I'm able to un-enable each one individually. Is there a way for me to be able to highlight multiple clips from the Edit Index and have them selected in the timeline?

I'm working with Resolve 15.

Thanks

As the playhead moves to the clip, I think you can only select one at a time.

That's what I thought, but wanted to make sure. Thanks for your reply!

I would love to see clip selection using the Edit Index as well.

I've been trying to Conform a project that used a lot of AVC/H264 sources with ProRes transcodes of the same media, and I'm finding it to be very tedious to use "Reconform from Media Storage" in order to switch out media that has already been edited into timelines. The "Reconform From…" dialogs dont allow you to conform clips based on "filtered" original-clip criteria, such as file extension, codec etc. So you have to actually select the clips you want to conform in the timeline first, which is very tedious and error prone.

The Edit Index allows you to filter a list of clips in the timeline, so it should be a no brainer to allow there actual selection of filtered clips in the timeline based on the Edit Index.

Either that, or you could build a source-clip filtering option into the "Reconform From…" tool. Although I still think it makes more sense to just make the Edit Index clips selectable instead.

Seems stupid that you can select different clips in the edit index but not do anything with the selection e.q. group them or other useful stuff.

Does anyone know if it's possible to select multiple clips in Active Timeline Window via the Edit Index window as of Resolve 17.1?

I was able to highlight multiple clips in the Edit Index in 17.1, but there was nothing I could do with them. What's the objective here?

Here's a workaround.

It is in the User Manual under "Editing Basics."
Use a flag or Clip Color to identify the source media.
Then access the Timeline menu.

+1 for this feature! To delete transistions I always have to zoom into the timeline cause otherwise I select anything else but not the transition. Then I always have to zoom out to my working region. Would be lots faster to select in Edit Index and hit delete...

But I guess we´ll rather see a "realtime cloud based AI speech translator with selectable celebrities' voices" than Blackmagic making those small things usable :-)

Deleting transitions is very easy in the Cut page. Just saying.

I would pay money to have the edit index more robust. Make it not just a navigation tool but a way to manage the timeline better. Selecting multiple clips, transitions, markers etc. then being able to delete those or globally change their attributes would be a huge time saver.

Additionally it would be beneficial to have the index be able to save not just column settings but also the desired filtering view. For example creating a preset for only Markers or whatever you prefer. Davinci also doesn’t remember the last settings on restart.

Yeah +1. Just yesterday I was thinking it would be great to be able to select a bunch of markers in the Edit Index and then copy & paste them to another timeline.

Could have sworn this was one of the announced new features in 17.4 ... and it is, but bizarrely it's only been implemented in the Fairlight Page.

see the 17.4 new features video at 10:30

Let's have a return to the glory days, when press releases for new versions included text like "...with over 300 new features and improvements that professional editors and colorists have asked for."

+1 for this - Im surprised this still isn't implemented FCPX this is really easy. It would be incredibly helpful when selecting all clips from a specific Camera or dialogue etc.

+1 again ... as noted above, this functionality was added in the Fairlight page, now more than 18 months ago, and it's not at all clear why it's still a 'Fairlight only' feature... in the meantime I've even tried switching to Fairlight to use the selection via Index there, and then switching back to Edit to handle the selection, but Resolve doesn't have an option to allow selections to move between pages. :(
