Replacing footage severe bug?

PostWed Apr 01, 2020 9:45 am

Hi all

I am mostly doing CGI - so I have situations when I need to render more frames than initially planned. Mow I am trying to do a quite simply task: replacing a footage with itself because resolve does not recognize if the footage length has changed. Only it just will replace with itself but with any other random sequence that is found in the same footage folder on the HD. What´s up!?

Any help on this would highly be appreciated...

Cheers

i'm also not understanding...

to replace a VFX shot with a revision i typcialy go the the media pool and use "replace", if the timecode, raster and colorspace are the same the timeline is updated instantly and correctly

if the timecode, raster or colorspace changed between VFX versions, typicaly it goes back to the vendor to sort their issues - unless one of those are the revision

in that case i link, mark clip, insert revision on track above, switch to color, past node tree, tweak as needed, back to edit, and drag new shot down over top of the old

Hm. let´s keep it simple. Here is what I want to do:
1) fast render of some CGI sequences then cutting those in Resolve
2) send preview to customer
2) change things due to feedback
3) hit render again in 3D app (img seq naming, numbering stay identical)
4) re-export from resolve

Now difficulties appear when the changes force me to render MORE frames than initially imported in resolve. Resolve would not remark the new frames and update clip length (in media pool). So I try to relink (same img seq at the same place on HD). The clip in the media pool still shows the same amount of frames (although there are new ones). So I try replacing the clip with itself. After selecting the first image of the seq and hitting OK the clip is replaced by a RANDOM other clip of the media pool.

Also I would like resolve to update the metadata shown when I rerender with final image size (frames show properly high res - only metadata wont update...)

Roger
P.S. I hope I could make myself clear. Sorry for my english. I´m just a Kraut...

So you are making changes in some other CG software, put that clip in the media pool and then need to replace the clip in the timeline with the new clip?
the new clip is longer so you want to do a ripple overwrite of the current with the new lower clip.
the ripple overwrite is in the menu, edit section.

I think what Roger is saying is he imported an image sequence of x number of frames. Changes were made in VFX department and rerendered, but now additional frames were rendered. Roger wants to know how to replace or reimport the updated image sequences so all new frames are included.

No it won't. You need to Replace the clip. (Might need a new name for the new clip to do that. Versioning can help here.)

Thats exactly what I need to avoid. There can be nearly a dozen times that I need to re-render CGI seq (first 1-3 Versions just wireframe animatic, 3-5 internal revisions for proposal to customer, 6-xx customer reviews).

A workaround could be to render many more frames than needed just as wireframes. Later on I can overwrite those images with properly rendered ones (Resolve will show these new frames just fine at least when flushing cache). And if I want to keep correct metadata (which isnt really crucial) then I render those first fast frames not half-res but full-res...

I hoped that someone would tell me "hit Button xy to force refresh image loader and metadata"...
